WWE Raw Elimination Chamber match announced: CM Punk vs Chris Jericho vs Dolph Ziggler vs Kofi Kingston vs The Miz vs R-Truth

Photo via WWE.com.

Well this is quite the surprise.

Instead of actually setting up angles on Raw to lead into the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, which is scheduled to go down this upcoming Feb. 19, 2012, WWE.com brings word of the six men who will participate in the Raw Chamber match for the WWE championship:

In breaking news, Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis revealed exclusively to WWE.com the Superstars who will compete for the WWE Title in the Raw Elimination Chamber Match: WWE Champion CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, Chris Jericho, R-Truth, The Miz and Kofi Kingston.

What an interesting way to break news of a major match, right? Why not wait until the opening segment of Raw tonight? I suppose they're going to announce it tonight anyway.

Punk, Ziggler and Jericho sound good, Miz and Truth not so much and what in the blue hell is Kofi Kingston doing in this match? I'm very much looking forward to how they'll explain this one.

Make sure you follow along with the Raw live blog tonight for all the latest and greatest right here.

Wait, wtf?

They couldn’t wait a week? Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s much better that they do this earlier than later. But wait till the dust settles on the Royal Rumble.

"Miz and Truth not so much and what in the blue hell is Kofi Kingston doing in this match?"

Exactly what I was thinking. K-kwik and Miz make sense together, since they are still doing that feud. But Kofi makes no sense at all.

I don’t know why they aren’t just mixing SD and RAW guys at this point. We’ve been watching “supershows” for so long at this point the brand split is almost non existent in the viewers mind. How much better would this match be with Orton, or hell even Big Show if you want to work Orton towards a title shot at Bryan.

True.

Should be a good match, just interested to hear how they get them there.

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

They can't explain Kofi. haha.

The rest I see legit explanations for being in the match, but Kofi makes no sense. The best thing he’s done in months was the handstand. Everyone else has a storyline leading them into this match, Kofi is just Kofi.

I guess they will tune in to see how it is put together

Kofi

Well now that the tag team thing is gone, he can go forward with being the extra man in these type of matches for a few great spots in the match. Who knows, maybe he’ll finally get a push this year.

You know why Kofi is there

BECAUSE HE DID A FUCKING HANDSTAND!!!!!!!!

So I guess they want Cena and Kane's storyline...

as far away from the title picture as possible?

And I guess Del Rio is not quite ready yet.

by djfivenine on Jan 30, 2012 5:26 PM EST reply actions

As Kanenite said they probably want Cena as far away from this match as possible

You wouldn’t want him hurt in a match like this when anything he’s doing until mania is just a time filler waiting for the Rock.

Miz, Truth, Kofi

I love this site, but the Miz/Truth hate is getting tiring. I’m not in love with them at the moment, but you’d think they were the anti-Christ if you read only this site and never watched the show.

And Kofi is in the match IMO because he was the Rumble MVP. Nice to see them presumably follow up on something really cool by rewarding the person involved. I’m more than okay with that. Besides, he deserves something after being relegated to the sidelines because of his boneheaded tag team partner.

I didn't show them hate in this post.

At all. In fact, I gave Miz props last night. But, you know, whatever.

You didn't show them love either, "not so much."

“Punk, Ziggler and Jericho sound good, Miz and Truth not so much.”

If this was an isolated incident, that would be one thing, but it’s been a pattern on this site to dump on Miz and Truth. I’m not saying you do it all the time, and I’m not even saying it’s always unjustified, but it has become excessive IMO.

In every one of my precaps I say I love Truth

As for Miz, he had a really bad run to close out 2011. I think he can turn it around very easily, but he has to show he can be a good heel without all the duckface super serious crap. And for this match, neither of the have been built up to main event status yet. Both can get there, but be announcing it they put the cart before the horse

I'm not a fan of Miz's schtick

and I’ll say that when I voice my opinion on it. Truth is okay but he’s floundering stuck with Miz. Again, my opinions. We all don’t need to agree.

I approve of this

I guess it will be made official tonight in the first segment right before HHH comes back and retains Johnny Ace as the GM of Raw

What is Jericho even doing?

He went from master troll to fired-up babyface last night. Now they are throwing Punk and Jericho together a month before WrestleMania. Bleh.

They put on a decent end to the Rumble for whatever that's worth

Jericho could put on a good match with Sheamus. Though it’d be no Jericho-Punk.

I just can't find a reason to care about Jericho/Sheamus.

I mean, Sheamus is so nondescript and dull. He’s about as much fun to watch as a jar of mayonnaise, and waitaminute, Cena was on to something!

Ziggler-Kofi Feud

Is this a sign at a possible feud between these two?

by Buckeye Brawler on Jan 30, 2012 6:05 PM EST reply actions

I see it more as something for kofi to do while Bourne is suspended.

by djfivenine on Jan 30, 2012 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

Kofi has something to do while Bourne is suspended.

Find Bourne and beat the crap out of him for messing up his push.

by Razztopia on Jan 30, 2012 6:14 PM EST up reply actions

God I hope not!

If Ziggler has to go from last nights match to a feud with Kofi it would destroy his build to this point.

Ziggler’s first IC and US titles wins. Who else is there for Ziggler to feud with right now, presuming Jericho-Punk occurs

No one from RAW, but we are in the supershow era

I’d love to see the Zig Zag man feud with Orton. It gets him away from Barrett at least.

I don’t know that Kofi’s presence in the match warrants an explanation. Let’s put Kane and Cena aside since they have their own thing going on. Who else obviously deserves the spot more than Kofi? I’m not so sure that Kofi obviously deserves it either, but I’m not sure that anybody is clearly being snubbed here. Ryder would be the guy but he is injured in the story. ADR is also injured. Is there anybody obvious being snubbed here? Swagger? I’d rather see Kofi in there, but I suppose Swagger is a (slightly) bigger deal in the storyline than Kofi is.. Anybody else?

by Kanenite on Jan 30, 2012 6:25 PM EST reply actions

Brodus!

No, he’s obviously not ready for that. But how cool would that be?

I am ready to see a step up for Brodus in some way.

HIs squash matches can only go on so far until it wears thin. If Ryder is going to be out for a while I would love to see them build him to wearing the US Title.
