WWE Royal Rumble 2012 results: Event photos gallery from St. Louis
WWE invaded the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri, last night (Sun., Jan. 29, 2012) with its Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, the second biggest show on the calendar each year for the world's largest pro wrestling promotion.
Much to the surprise of many, Sheamus entered at number 22 and lasted to the very end to win the Rumble match, last eliminating Chris Jericho, who failed to deliver on his promise to "end the world as we know it."
CM Punk successfully defended his WWE championship with a clean pinfall victory over Dolph Ziggler. He even got a fair shake from John Laurinaitis, despite some shenanigans teasing otherwise.
John Cena went to a double countout with Kane, though Cena ended the night lying flat on his back staring up at the lights aftera chokeslam from a smiling Kane, who had also just delivered a tombstone to Zack Ryder while Eve looked on. All in a night's work for the "Big Red Machine."
In other action, Daniel Bryan escaped a steel cage to retain his world heavyweight championship over Big Show and Mark Henry in the opening match of the evening. That's not to mention a gang of Divas doing their thing in an eight man tag match while Brodus Clay delivered another squash, this time over Drew McIntyre.
A photo gallery of the night's action is available for your viewing pleasure after the jump.

I was surprised..
That Kane didn’t make it in the Rumble. 13x in a row for him & they just kept him out this year, why? Big Show at 30 was a tremendous let down. We have been programmed to believe that 30 is usually a big name with a return, for him to waddle out was idiotic. Was great to see Orton throw him out on his own though.

Agreed
The Rumble could have been much more entertaining if Kane, Cena, Clay, Punk & Bryan were in it.
I guess they couldn't build Kane up to this monster who's breaking peoples backs
then let him come out in the Rumble like nothing happened. Though they’ve done much dumber things with no continuity.

Completely agreed.
When Orton and Jericho came out, I totally thought 30 was going to be someone huge. Someone I was watching it with mentioned The Rock. Of course that got everyone’s hopes up. And then big show comes in. wop wop
This was a pretty bad rumble, but I'm actually glad Sheamus won.
I have little faith WWE will truly get behind him, but at least it’s a start. The only other credible guys in the Rumble that night both didn’t need the win to the degree Sheamus did.
That said, if it weren’t for Punk/Ziggler and the unexpected Sheamus win, this would’ve been an awful show. There were way too many jobbers in the Rumble this year, and everything related to Cena/Kane was just catastrophically awful, made worse by the fact that there’s going to be a second Cena/Kane match at the next PPV.
Fortunately, I was watching this show with friends, so there were plenty of people to rip on the show, elevating the viewing experience significantly.
No picture of Ricardo's pimped out ride????
That was one of the funniest parts of the Rumble.
