WWE Royal Rumble 2012 winner is ...

Photo

... Sheamus.

The Miz started off at number one and lasted almost towards the end but ended up getting dumped out by The Big Show almost as soon as the big man came in.

Highlights of the Rumble include Ricardo Rodriguez coming out to Alberto Del Rio's music but driving out in a busted hoopty as opposed to a top of the line sports car, a Socko versus Cobra showdown between Mick Foley and Santino Marella and surprise entrants such as a returning Kharma, The Road Dogg and each member of the commentary team.

In the end, the final four were The Big Show, Randy Orton, Sheamus and Chris Jericho. Orton tossed out the world's largest athlete but soon saw himself on the outside of the ring courtesy of The Ayatollah of Rock and Rollah.

Sheamus and Jericho battled it out with Jericho nearly eliminating The Great White and even sinking in a Walls of Jericho. Sheamus nearly tosses his opponent out but the recently returned Superstar skinned the cat and staved off elimination. Both men ended up on the top of the turnbuckle and nearly fell to the outside but managed to stay on the apron. A Codebreaker from Jericho nearly put Sheamus' lights out.

A second Codebreaker was countered and Jericho was forced to skin the cat for the second time. One Brogue Kick later and Jericho feet hit the mat making Sheamus the 2012 Royal Rumble winner. The Great White is on his way to WrestleMania 28.

does anyone actually like Sheamus?

by luckydevil713 on Jan 29, 2012 10:50 PM EST reply actions

Can I honestly ask you, and I'm not trying to be a jerk at all, but,

what about Sheamus do you like? What about his personality is appealing? How does he stand out (beyond his palour)?

by bigstupidsmile on Jan 29, 2012 11:23 PM EST up reply actions

I like Sheamus because he's just a huge brawler.

It’s not that I love his work rate or that I think he’s technically sound. I just enjoy him. Do I want him headlining ‘Mania? Eh, probably not, no. He’s ok on the mic. He’s not really terrible at anything, but his best skill is yelling FELLA after being the hell out of someone. I dunno.

by Kyle Rancourt on Jan 30, 2012 1:57 AM EST up reply actions

That was arguably

one of the worst Royal Rumbles ever. Not so much with who won (but still, Sheamus?) but there were almost no surprises. I mean, the 3 announcers? Road Dogg? Hacksaw?? C’mon. This all better be leading somewhere because this was disappointing.

by TheCrow4Life on Jan 29, 2012 10:50 PM EST reply actions

Highlights were basically

Kharma’s return and Kofi’s wicked handstanding. I agree. Mostly disappointing.

Less surprises doesn't make it bad.

But I wasn’t able to get into it as much because egos in the back. You got Orton who almost never puts guys over so I thought he would win, and you got Sheamus who never loses.

From Orton coming in it was great

But I’m not buying the Sheamus win. I just want to see Jericho-Punk. Unless they’re in negotiations for Austin-Punk. In which case I can totally let this slide.

What a waste of Jericho's return.

I mean, Sheamus? Boring as hell, feuding with JINDER MAHAL Sheamus? You have got to be kidding me. I felt like crying. Up to that point, though, I enjoyed the match. I was disappointed by Christian’s absence, though, and to a lesser extent, Undertaker’s. I would have preferred Orton over Sheamus if we couldn’t have Jericho. I would’ve loved to have see Orton vs. Bryan at Wrestlemania.

by joliemadchen on Jan 29, 2012 11:23 PM EST reply actions

So a month into his return its a waste

Its Chris fucking Jericho not Christian or ADR who needs a build back to build a show around them status. Jericho could be gone for 5 years and still be a main eventer when he comes back.

This is why I don't think he should've won the Royal Rumble

He doesn’t need to win it to have a main event match with CM Punk. He’s Chris Jericho- he has one because he’s Chris Jericho.

By the end, though, when it was him and Sheamus, I was gunning for him, though. I mean, the same kind of applies with Sheamus. He can be bumped back to the main event scene at any time, really.

One of the reasons I feel so strongly about this is that Sheamus just bores me to death. I guess I’m glad it wasn’t…um…well…Jey Uso or Alex Riley, buy beyond that, I’d have been happier with literally any other participant. Imagine if Hacksaw had won again. Cody Rhodes would've been better than Sheamus

I know he has a program with his brother coming up, but you could still do that and build him towards mania. Maybe even have him win the championship belt while still holding the IC title, then just forfeit the IC title after he wins.

I was hoping Cody Rhodes would of won, since his push seems to have kind of petered out, and a RR win would have really boosted his profile.

And he did cut a promo saying he'd pull an "Ultimate Warrior."

That was pretty hilarious. I’d be thrilled to seem him elevated, but in his case he’s still so young that there’s plenty of time.

by joliemadchen on Jan 30, 2012 8:55 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah

I would rather they put him into programs with guys who are a little more current. Or, help to elevate some younger guys to at least the mid-card status kind of like what seems to be happening with Gabriel. The whole Booker thing was ok but being that Rhodes is the IC champ you kind of know how it would end up and I feel like it was a little bit of a waste of time although it did get him heat. Same thing with his brother. Cody will win one, Dustin will probably win but not win the title and then Cody will win the rubber match.

by The Name is Dalton on Jan 30, 2012 9:03 AM EST up reply actions

What I’m saying is that they shouldn’t have had Jericho talk and fight if he wasn’t going to win. If this whole doing-nothing gimmick was going to lead to something, they should have saved the talking and fighting for a moment when he was going to look good. Now he’s just one of the pack again and for what, Sheamus?

by joliemadchen on Jan 30, 2012 12:34 AM EST up reply actions

He is Chris Jericho

he will never be just one in the pack. At any moment he could challenge for the WHC or WWEC because he is just that over with fans and is that good on the mic to make people care and think he can pull it off.

The Kharma thing is actually pretty interesting. They don’t have a connection, but when you think about it, Kharma came to change the culture in the Divas division. That you don’t have to be a barbie doll. She wanted to change the world as we know it, basically.

by Kyle Rancourt on Jan 30, 2012 2:02 AM EST up reply actions

It still could lead to something

He might come out tomorrow, be all, “I am the best in the world at wrestling. How could I lose to Sheamus!”. Then out comes CM Punk saying, “You’re the best in the world?”

Still could be a meaningful loss.

Why all the hate for Sheamus?

Solid worker, getting better all the time.

Not the best on the mic but the potential is there if they give him decent material, not old Irish folk tales.

Always had something about him in my eyes, a certain charisma and fire in his eyes. Not unlike a certain “Stone Cold” back in the day.

Saw the potential in him and been a fan since before he won the WWE Title at the end of 2009. When he killed Jamie Noble and some fan shouted “Kill him some more, Big Red!” I saw money then.

Kudos to WWE for attempting to elevate someone off winning the Rumble. That’s what it’s for, really. Neither Jericho or Orton needed the win here. The final five minutes of the show were very dramatic and well worked.
