Booker T says he won't be in the Royal Rumble this year, will do commentary for the match
The Royal Rumble match this year is a fascinating one simply because we still know so little about who's in, who's out, and what to expect come Sunday night (Jan. 29, 2012) on pay-per-view.
Names we know for a fact that are in include: The Miz (who has the number one spot), R-Truth, Wade Barrett, Sheamus, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho. Unless I'm forgetting a confirmed name or two, those are the few that we know 100-percent for certain will be in the match.
The interesting aspect to this year's Rumble match is that WWE is pushing the angle that any superstar is eligible to participate, which would mean anyone who has a match earlier in the night, legends, all that jazz.
But we don't know exactly what that will entail. We thought it might mean the WWE or world heavyweight champion could enter the match but CM Punk recently stated he will not enter the match this year. Perhaps that means members of the commentary team?
Booker T tells the Miami Herald he won't be in the match either:
"This will be my first Royal Rumble commentating. That's what I'm really looking forward to. I've worked so hard to get to this position in my career. I never in a million years thought it would be so great. Being able to be out there and watch the young guys, the guys of the future, the guys who are going to have to carry WrestleManias for the next 15 years, that's really awesome."
Both Punk and Booker could be lying and they actually will be in the match but I don't see what purpose that would serve. A swerve like that wouldn't exactly have the effect they would be going for.
It's also possible they believe they won't be in the match but plans will change in between now and the Rumble. We are talking about Vince McMahon and the WWE here.
Cagesiders, which would you rather see: Booker T in the Rumble match or Booker T on commentary?

Bonus points
if Booker does commentary while wrestling in the Rumble. Sorta like how the Rock used to put on the headset and take a water break while beating down someone on the outside of the ring.

Or like he did in TnA when he’d grab the mic & get in the ring & beat people down while announcing.

what about bringing in Shane Douglas....
If the WWE really wants to bring in a commentator that would light the product up, and someone who as a perfect antagonist could wear several different hats when called upon. Commentator, interviewer, wrestler, The Franchise Shame Douglas would be a perfect fit!
