WWE Royal Rumble match statistics: 2012 video edition
I love it when WWE releases videos like this. Not only do we get the usual awesome production value, stat geeks like myself get to mark out over completely meaningless numbers.
Here's the rundown of what's shown in the video:
- 31 -- The total number of WWE Hall of Famers who have competed in the Royal Rumble match, who combined to headline 21 WrestleManias
- 695 -- Since 1988, this many superstars have entered the Rumble and been eliminated
- 39 -- The number of superstars Shawn Michaels has eliminated throughout his illustrious career, the most of anyone ever
- 35 -- Kane, who is in second place, has eliminated just four less than HBK and has done so while appearing in 13 consecutive Rumble matches
- 11 -- The most superstars ever eliminated by one man in any one Rumble, accomplished by Kane in 2001
- 194,107 -- The combined weight of all the WWE superstars who have competed in the Rumble match
- 421,883 -- The number of fans who have attended Royal Rumble matches
- 62:12 -- The amount of time Rey Mysterio spent in the 2006 Rumble to set the record for the longest appearance in a Rumble match.
- 3 -- The number indicating the most victories in a Rumble match, accomplished by Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1997, 1998 and 2001
- 0:02 -- The number of seconds it took to eliminate Warlord, who held the record for shortest time in the Rumble match for a full 20 years
- 0:01 -- The record after it was broken by Santino Marella, who was eliminated in the 2009 Rumble match by Kane in just one second
- 2 -- The number of women who have competed in the match, Chyna in 1999 and Beth Phoenix in 2010
- 27 -- The entrance number in the Rumble match that has produced the most winners, with four
- 55-percent -- The amount of superstars who have gone on to win a championship at WrestleMania that year
Any records going to fall this year? And who is going to win?

I believe Kane breaks HBK's record
I think he gets to compete based on the “all superstars are eligible” and tosses at least 5 guys. My vote for the winner is Jericho or Orton. I want to see Orton win, as I don’t think Y2J needs a victory, but I would not be surprised if Jericho ends the PPV pointing at the WM sign in the rafters. Anyone else would legitametly shock me.
So go forth, my brethren, and proceed to mark the f*ck out
How does that fit into the “end of the world” gimmick?
It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.

I'm not even going to pretend I know what Jerocho is doing
He has proven smarter than me each and every time I write something. If I had to guess, what he is going to do will only be tangibly connected to the Royal Rumble match, and he’ll further his storyline some other way. But again, I have no idea and am tired of him proving me wrong.
So go forth, my brethren, and proceed to mark the f*ck out

I don’t think Kane or Cena will be in the Rumble match this year. I’m going to assume Cena wrecks Kane, so he will be in no condition to compete.
I still think Punk will get screwed and then win the Rumble.

Jericho costs CM Punk the title by hitting him with the blue ray version of 2012.
Jericho enters the Royal Rumble while playing the Its the End of the World as we know it, as his entrance music.
Jericho writes 666 by using spray paint on the backs of wrestlers he knocked out.
Jericho brings out a globe and ends that world on CM Punks head.
Jericho enters number 1, breaks HBK record and stays in there for 66.60 minutes and wins the Rumble.
Jericho ends Vince’s world of the WWE by rebranding it the WWF.
I've got something to say; it better to burn out than to fade away!!!
I'm still waiting for my CM Punk WWE Ice Cream Bar.

Does Benoit still have the record for longest particpant time?
I think Martel set the record in ’91, followed by Flair in ’92, then Backlund in ’93, and then Benoit in ’04.
Has the record been broken since?

Woops nevermind.
Gotta read the ENTIRE article, instead of scanning it.
That was definitely a ME-fail.

Was coming here to say the same thing.
No you are right, technically its Benoit, but considering what happened with him, I think the WWE is just trying to avoid bringing up that…situation again.
Show no mercy; for you shall receive none
So wait..Benoit lasted longer than Rey?
I don’t know the exact times. I just assumed from reading the article that Mysterio broke Benoit’s 2004 record in 2005, just as Benoit broke Backlund’s record.
Was Benoit actually in longer, but WWE went with the second-best time to avoid acknowledging “that guy”?

Why the Emphasis on "Every WWE Superstar"??
They’ve done a pretty piss-poor job of pimping the Royal Rumble as a whole this year, but I’ve got to wonder if they’re looking for some sort of “shock and awe” angle with the constant mentioning of “Every WWE Superstar” being eligible.
This makes me think they might be angling for a big shocking return like The Rock, Austin, Undertaker, Triple H., etc…but I fail to see how that plays into anything else worthwhile—storyline-speaking anyway.
Austin vs. Punk (or Lesnar or whomever) likely won’t happen until 2013 (if at all)
Rock vs Cena does NOT need the title to make it important.
‘Taker doesn’t need a surprise return and title shot when he’s got HHH waiting in the hopper for WM28.
Lesnar coming back and winning the Rumble would be huge, but there’s not a title holder that makes sense for him, unless he uses the win to go after ‘Taker…but like I said, we’ve got HHH in the waiting.
I already foresee Christian making a triumphant return (unless I’m completely off on his recovery time), but there’s no way they let him win the whole shebang.
Who else would be worth pimping the “EVERY WWE SUPERSTAR” line so hard?!
They blew their wad and brought Orton back early (for whatever reason) instead of garnering the “surprise” return pop. Alberto Del Rio may or may not be ready for a speedy return too, but he’s been booked into oblivion so I can’t see him winning the damn thing again.
Jericho and Orton are the two most logical choices to go over here. The two back-burner options are probably Sheamus or Barrett if they decided to REALLY get behind one or the other, but I don’t see it happening.
My best guess (and it is probably a poor one) is that they have Daniel Bryan enter it and win and then refuse to fight anyone at WM28 and spend weeks talking about how he gets the night off or whatever until Elimination Chamber when either he loses the title or someone else wins the number one contendership.
I think it's because, of late,
you know that the guys who have other matches during the PPV aren’t going to be in it. If they’re stressing that anybody can qualify, maybe we see Dolph Ziggler in the Royal Rumble and in his match with CM Punk, or whatever, stuff like that.

This is what I think we'll see
but how great would it be to see someone like Austin, Rock, or Lesnar make an appearance. They don’t have to win, but you can have them come in, eliminate a couple of guys and then have someone like Mark Henry throw them out when they aren’t looking.
Well, basically every year, you know you are going to get a surprise entrant or two that kind of comes out of left field, so...

Last year...
Both Orton and Ziggler were in the Rumble after competing in world title matches. I think when the video says, “And NOW for the FIRST time EVER…”, I think either Punk or DB will compete in the Rumble as Champion.

Good catch.
2005 was the Rumble Vince blew his quads out jumping into the ring.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.
Goddamn Kane was such a beats back in the day.
I remember getting my first ever boner from seeing the Big Red Machine take out wrestler after wrestler back in 2001…ah the memories.

The Rumble Surprise I want to see
Kane eliminates 4 guys tying HBK for the all time record. HBK is a surprise entrant & eliminates Kane to reclaim the record.
