Chris Jericho speaks on Raw for the first time since his return, what's his plan for the Royal Rumble?
Last night (Jan. 23) on Raw, Chris Jericho said his first words (into a microphone, at least) on WWE television since he made his big return on Jan. 2. So what did he say once he finally spoke after teasing it for so many weeks?
"This Sunday at the Royal Rumble, it's going to be the end of the world as you know it."
It was an interesting word choice if, for nothing else, it brought back to mind the promos that aired teasing his return for the six weeks leading up to Jan. 2. For the past few weeks, they haven't even acknowledged a connection between the current incarnation of Jericho's character and the creepy and mysterious videos. The general theme of the promos was that whoever was returning would bring about the end of the world as we know it and they were spurned on by a woman.
We have yet to receive any indication as to who the woman is as the push that makes Jericho move but we know he's not completely abandoning the concept introduced with the promos that brought forth his return.
The question, of course, is how will all this tie into the Rumble? And what exactly is the plan here?
Many of you opined in the Raw live blog thread that it now seems obvious Jericho will win the Royal Rumble match this Sunday night and I'm inclined to agree that that appears to be a logical conclusion. But how would that signify the "end of the world as we know it?"
Some have said Jericho could be planning on attacking CM Punk to cost him the WWE championship leading to Punk getting him eliminated from the Rumble match to set up their feud. That seems a lot less likely but still entirely possible.
Cagesiders, can you explain what Jericho has planned and where this storyline is going? Anyone got any good theories? Video of Jericho's appearance on Raw last night after the jump.

New thought on the woman:
Perhaps the woman who spurred him on was…his wife? Perhaps she, in a perceptive moment, saw how much Chris wanted to come back, and encouraged him to do so?
…Nah, makes too much sense.
Time to spread a little chaos...
Perhaps
the woman was Stephanie McMahon, and at the Royal Rumble he helps to gets Laurinaitis fired, HHH and Stephanie show up on Raw and with Jericho, take over the show.
I hop he wins and goes against Punk at WM.

If he does a program with Punk..
I will be most pleased.
Jericho's program with Punk will put Punk's execution of his character to the test.
I have no doubt that the feud will be awesome!
I'll miss his not talking.
I enjoyed the mystery and the awkwardness. This run won’t be the same to me now, but I’ll try not to be overly negative, especially if everyone else is fine with it.
But, hey, if “the end of the world as you know it” is Jericho beating Punk, shouldn’t it happen at Wrestlemania instead of the Rumble? I fail to see how starting a feud with Punk will fit that analogy. But maybe it’ll make sense after the show.
I agree.
I think it was hilarious the pop he got right after he started talking.

Now they mentioned that the rumble
For the first time ever, is open to the entire roster. Can this mean that the champion can join the rumble? Hope they use this loop hole for story line purposes

What does it mean that the entire roster is eligible?
It’s only a 30 man Rumble, so will every superstar be waiting in the back for their name to be called? Then is Miz the only for sure confirmed participant since he’s #1 now?

I could see Jericho costing Punk the title if the WWE Title match were the final match of the show.
But the Rumble itself is the final match, right? Costing Punk the title before he won the Rumble wouldn’t make much sense.
I strongly believe he'll do a program with Punk
“The end of the world as you know it”
Punk is “The Best in the World” “as we all know” and Jericho will end that “world”.

Yeah
There really is no other explanation that makes sense other than Jericho referring to CM Punk being “The Best In The World”. Here’s the tweet from Jericho back in July/August post-Punk shoot:
Everyone is so excited that @CMPunk mentioned me on Raw. Newsflash…I don’t give a shit. Mind ur own business and stop rippin me off Punk
With what we’ve seen in the videos, Jericho is going to end “The Best In The World” because he is simply copying Jericho. Since they clearly aren’t ignoring the videos, I think it only makes sense that Stephanie McMahon is going to be involved in this and I can only hope this means that HHH is going to side with her on screwing Punk. I know, more HHH screen time is the thing most people hate here, but its the only way to get a decent payoff from the previous HHH-Punk feud and it gives Punk a more legitimate wrestler to fight against in the ring. And really, it would be a happy surprise if the HHH-Punk feud from before was actually a long term plan that they had to build towards a huge Wrestlemania and beyond rather than just HHH forcing himself into things once again and trying to “Hogan” CM Punk’s momentum.
