On this date in WWF history: Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior at the Royal Rumble
Shit just got real.
In today's pro wrestling landscape, with the frequency of televised broadcasts, it's very difficult to keep the roster apart for any extended period of time. That being said, it's hard to pop for a true "superfight" when everyone is booked so closely together.
That wasn't the case 22 years ago.
On January 21, 1990, Hulk Hogan would go on to win the Royal Rumble. But the outcome wasn't the big story coming out of the World Wrestling Federation's (WWF) annual supershow. No, it was what happened during the match that had marks worldwide licking their chops.
I'm talking, of course, about the face off between Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior. Hulkster was the WWF Champion. Warrior was the Intercontinental Champion. And the showdown, brilliantly commentated by Jesse "The Body" Ventura, was executed perfectly.
The stare, then the shove, then the contact. Which babyface would reign supreme? See it all go down, after the jump.
This wasn't just a one-off, it was to set the stage for "Champion vs. Champion" at WrestleMania 6. Who else went bananas over this classic moment in Royal Rumble history?

You bring up an interesting point
We really can’t have these kind of matchups anymore with everyone having to wrestle each other on a weekly basis. The only real way to bring back these kinds of match-ups in the WWE is for a stricter brand split.
Ah the good days. I can remember just being overly excited and I even had a WM party when it came around just for this match where I had all my friends (well the ones that were wrestling fans like myself) come over and had one of the best times I can remember. I don’t think I’ll ever get to have days like that again. I still get amped up whenever I see this though.
you're own stupidity will lead you to your own downfall

Wore that WM 6 VHS tape out watching champion vs champion, title vs title. As adult I’m sure if I watch it again it will crush my fond memories….ending of the match wasn’t too bad though.

Warrior vs Hogan at WM
I can barely remember anything from my childhood – but I still can feel the excitement and glorified happiness when I watched it.
As a kid, and child Hulkamaniac I marked hard for this and the WM. I don’t dare watch it again today and ruin the memory.

I still don't get why everyone loved the Warrior. Always thought he sucked.
