On this date in WCW history: Introducing Commissioner Kevin Nash
On January 16, 2000, Kevin Nash defeated Terry Funk in a hardcore match at World Championship Wrestling's (WCW) Souled Out pay-per-view event at the Firstar Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The card was a comedy of errors after Bret Hart and Jeff Jarrett pulled out due to injury, and Chris Benoit wrestled his final match for the promotion before jumping ship and swimming to the WWF.
Due to the horrific circumstances surrounding his death, I don't want to give him any headlines unless absolutely necessary, which is why "Big Sexy" gets top billing for his match against the Funkster.
See Nash defeat Funk to become WCW Commissioner, after the jump.
Nash would become Commissioner and do all sorts of silly Commissioner-type things like strip Sid Vicious of the world title and outlaw his powerbomb.
He also gave Jeff Jarett power of attorney when he injured his ankle but "Double J" didn't do such a good job and set up their brief feud.
Anyone looking back on this with fond memories?

Personal ?
Why do you not wish to mention Benoit? Everybody knows what happened, everybody thinks it sucks. Everyone knows that between the concussions and the steroids (both required of the job), it wasn’t his fault. So why vilify him like the mainstream press?

So go forth, my brethren, and proceed to mark the f*ck out

The fact that you think it wasn't his fault
and exonerate him of personal responsibility is why I try not to bring it up. It’s a mindset I don’t understand and cannot comprehend.
He murdered his wife and kid and you want to blame that on too many bumps and too many needles. Why, because you thought he was a good worker?
You’re entitled to have your own opinion, but my personal opinion is that Chris Benoit was a coward who couldn’t face his own personal demons. He could have very easily just killed himself and left his family alone.
He’s a disgusting piece of trash and I hope he’s in hell.

There is such thing as mental illness, you are just giving WWE talking points, look at the list of wrestlers who have killed themselves. You just want to give Vince a pass.

There’s also such a thing as first degree murder.
You want to hold Vince accountable now for the Benoit murders because he runs a pro wrestling monopoly?

Morally he is partly responsible, I have noticed a lot of cagesiders parrot WWE talking points about blood, chairshots, steroids, Cena, profits and Benoit. Clearly people can be insane, Benoit was insane not a monster.

He might not have been a monster his whole life
but in his final days, what he did was unforgiveable regardless of his reasoning and mental health at the time.
but he wasn't himself
i refuse to believe a man in his full reasoning capacity would commit such a crime.
it does suck a big one, though but i tend to side with those who don’t want benoit removed from the anals of history just for one completely sad and fucked up episode.
pride never die.
Thank you for the reply
It’s extremely narrow-minded and uninformed, but at least you replied.

right
narrow-minded and uninformed — which translates to my opinion is different than yours so you call me names. Good job. Or did you just want the last word?

No, and may I quote your snobby ass?
“I probably shouldn’t have even mentioned it in the first place because all it does is turn into a pissing match, so I’ll let you guys have the floor”
Seems tis YOU needing the last word, a word you cannot back up.
You see, unlike 90% of the people here, I don’t pretend I’m the Second Coming of VKM. Also unlike 90% of the people here, I have some education and background with drug issues and mental illness.
You choose to call Benoit a murderer. Fine. Can you define murder? Here’s a hint: It involves planning ahead, malice aforethought. So, unless you know more about the case than every other human being on the planet, you’re immediately proven wrong.
A murder conviction also requires “clear thinking”, which someone who’s endured that many concussions and had their brain turned to oatmeal probably doesn’t have. The years of steroids and painkillers certainly didn’t help. You may choose to pooh-pooh those facts away, but the thing is, you can’t. He did what hundreds of others have done in pursuit of their personal and professional dreams. How many of them committed suicide, and do you condemn to eternal Hellfire? Here’s a newsflash: People snap every day, and it doesn’t always involve concussions or drug abuse. Some people are just not right. It’s not their fault, it’s genetic. Shit happens. That’s a horrible way of looking at it, but it’s also a fact of daily life on Earth.
If I may quote again: He murdered his wife and kid and you want to blame that on too many bumps and too many needles. Why, because you thought he was a good worker?
My opinion of him-as-wrestler is irrelevant in this discussion, as is yours. The problem is, you base your position of him-as-person on opinions which fly directly in the face of proven scientific fact, You talk as if you were there watching him do it. You weren’t. You don’t know what happened, nobody does. And yet you say “my opinion is different than yours so you call me names”. Calling your stance narrow-minded and uninformed is calling it like it is, as I have shown. If you’re that sensitive, if the truth hurts that much, change it.

Yep, just as I thought
Big bad editor-man talks ignorance, has it proven to be ignorance, and doesn’t have the nads to admit he’s wrong.
Stick to pretend sports, leave real-world intelligent conversations to the adults.

We could argue the Benoit thing all day
I probably shouldn’t have even mentioned it in the first place because all it does is turn into a pissing match, so I’ll let you guys have the floor, but I’m going to move on and get ready for the RAW live blog.
That thread is full of laughs and good times. This one is not.
