On this date in WWF history: The first-ever Monday Night RAW
On January 11, 1993, World Wrestling Federation (WWF) would change the pro wrestling business forever when it debuted its new flagship program, Monday Night Raw, live from the Grand Ballroom at the Manhattan Center Studios in New York, NY.
Here's what went down:
Crush defeated Bam Bam Bigelow by Disqualification (dark match)
Yokozuna (with Mr Fuji) defeated Koko B. Ware
The Steiner Brothers defeated The Executioners (Duane Gill & Barry Hardy)
Shawn Michaels (c) defeated Max Moon for the WWF Intercontinental Championship
The Undertaker (with Paul Bearer) defeated Damien Demento
Emceed by Vince McMahon, Rob Bartlett and "Macho Man" Randy Savage, the inaugural Raw had some pretty good matches, but for me, the best part of this show was watching Bobby "The Brain" Heenan try to "weasel" his way past Sean Mooney to try and gain access to the venue after getting replaced prior to the broadcast.
The first-ever Monday Night RAW, after the jump.
Ah, good ol' Max Moon. Before we had the Internet to know the true Hollywood story.

Man, Rob Bartlett was terrible.
Though toward the end of his (short) run on commentary, Vince used to rip him pretty bad, which was funny.
Early-era RAW had a ton of good TV matches and also had lots of wrestlers who knew the art of the awesome squash match. Those shows aged really well, IMO.
“Yo, Hitman! Squashing your little brother like a cockaroach? That was fun, mang!” Razor Ramon was always as cool as can be.
I had death wishes for Doink the Clown! I was too young to be a smark but even then…those gimmicks were goofy to the extreme. What were they thinking? Max Moon? Ughhhh.
Thanks for the post. I’d never seen Raw’s first episode. Makes for a fun trip back in time. It’s amazing what a big loud rock show Raw’s since become.
