On this date in WWF history: Stone Cold Steve Austin has a Breakdown: In Your House
Starts at the 4:50 mark
On September 27, 1998, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was forced to defend his WWF Championship against the brothers of destruction, Kane and The Undertaker, in a triple-threat match at the Breakdown: "In Your House" pay-per-view from the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario.
And what Stone Cold storyline would be complete without a Mr. McMahon screwjob?
Aside from the fade to black as Vinny Mac's limousine sped away with the title to close the show, pro wrestling fans were left scratching their heads because it was unclear as to who the new champion was. That's because both "The Deadman" and "The Big Red Machine" had covered "The Rattlesnake" for the pin.
See for yourself:
While many fans hated the outcome of the match, if nothing else, it set up the Zamboni attack the very next night on Monday Night RAW.
Any Cagesiders out there marking out for this angle? Or does it still taste bitter?

I think all PPV’s should end feuds and at least have a non-screw job finish to end the show. There’s no reason for it, especially in today’s WWE w/ 2 world titles & the Tag titles.. which could be elevated if they actually tried. Its just a lousy way to end things.. yea, you can get a cliff hanger for the next night to spike a rating… big whoop… when people actually fork out cash for a PPV.. you screw them over & they will think it over before investing in a PPV again.
Look at TnA… the night Hardy was loaded & got beat in 90 secs & one move.. they had all night to change the card, if they really wanted to do THAT match, they could have arranged for it earlier in the evening.. or could have gave a lame reason Hardy was inactive.. injury or set up something else… and help the title up & done one of at least a dozen scenarios. Instead, they went w/ that BS & its been haunting them ever since… or so the reports go.

I was there live!
And I can still remember most of the crowd being confused by that ending. I know I was. But those were the times, and it just made everyone want to watch Raw the next night. I dont think anyone expected Stone Cold to lose the title that night.
Looking back, what I stacked event that was… Hot opener with Owen vs Edge…Triple Threat Cage Shamrock/Rock/Foley who were ALL over and working “tweener” gimmicks…Solid main event. Man I miss those times.
“Let me tell you something ya big dead bastard”
LOL the good ol days!
