TNA heavily advertised a match between Ric Flair and Sting on this past week's edition of Impact Wrestling as the main event of the evening. The very fact that a 62-year-old man is still being booked in major spots for the number two pro wrestling company in America is sad enough. To make matters worse, he suffered an injury during the match thanks to a completely unnecessary spot off the top ropes.
The Post and Courier brings word of the details on Flair's injury and gets a quote from the "Nature Boy."
"It was brutal. I thought I had broken my arm on that (superplex) spot. I don't know how I did it either," Flair said Friday night.
Fortunately Flair didn't break his arm, but he did suffer a broken bursa sac in his left elbow.
"Sting put me down flat on that superplex, but somehow I hit something. It broke the bursa sack in my elbow. But at that moment I was sure I had broken my arm in half."
Flair says the move was perfectly executed.
"I must have put my arm down wrong or something," he said. "I really don't know how it happened. I've got one arm twice the size of the other right now."
Flair says the injury definitely affected the rest the match, even though the two were able to finish, with Sting winning with a Scorpion Deathlock.
How much is there to add here, really? TNA is so desperate for ratings, they chose to match up a 62-year-old man with a 52-year-old man in what amounted to a meaningless match. Not only that, Sting was irresponsible during the match, executing two big spots off the top ropes, including the superplex that caused the broken bursa sac in Flair's elbow.
As if this entire ordeal wasn't embarrassing enough.
What's more, the reason the match was held was so TNA could lead into a match between Sting and Hulk Hogan at the promotions biggest pay-per-view of the year, Bound for Glory. May I remind you, Hogan is 58-years-old and has a back that is essentially broken at all times despite multiple surgeries to correct it.
