TNA: Sting discovers that no good deed goes unpunished ... especially in pro wrestling

Remember late last year when the big rumor was that Sting was going to jump to WWE, appear at the Rumble, and wrestle Undertaker at Wrestlemania for what may have been the last match (or at least the last truly big match) for both guys? To be as big a superstar as Sting and entering "The E" for the first time during the big run up to Wrestlemania to try and take down Taker’s streak would have made the perfect bookend to an amazing career.

Forget the insane crowd reaction Sting would have gotten at the Rumble. Hell, they popped big time for Kevin Nash and Booker T, they would have gone bananas for Sting. Just think about him going for the biggest match on the biggest stage in the biggest promotion in wrestling. Let’s face it, it would have been bigger than what we ultimately got, which was Triple H vs. Undertaker and that match outshone John Cena vs. The Miz, the main event, at every turn. You know that both of them would have given their absolute best, to the point that it could have easily been a solid contender for "Match of the Year." Who could write a better ending for such a glorious career?

Fast forward nine months and it's a sad state of affairs for the 52-year-old Stinger. He's running around with a bad Joker gimmick while wrestling the beat up and worn out Ric Flair ... and not even on a pay-per-view, mind you. The worst part is, Sting stayed with TNA for good reasons! He said he wanted to save the sinking ship company so he stuck around to do just that.

Steve, Steve, Steve. Don’t you know that you’re supposed to FLEE a sinking ship, not jump on to it? I don’t know how long his new contract is for but hopefully he’ll realize how bad things are and hop over to WWE before it’s too late ... assuming it isn’t already.

2011 will be the year that Sting proved that no good deed goes unpunished, especially in pro wrestling and especially in Dixie Carter world.

that jeff was on a lot of drugs and it wasn’t sting’s fault whatsoever.

Sting's veteran presence in the ring basically averted a disaster in that match.

Didn't trust how I was going to be used

Is the last line Sting used in his Icon dvd in 06. Granted he was talking about why he didn’t go to WWF at the time when they purchased WCW. That was what like 5 years ago and I don’t think it’s so much of that now but there were reports of him just not liking the overall product and the way it was being run over there. I’m a huge Sting mark but I believe one of the other reasons why he doesn’t want to go is do to the hectic schedule. Of course I’m sure WWE would compensate him by giving him a legends contract which he wouldn’t have to wrestle all that often. He’s gotta have some sort of guarantee whether if he wrestled or not, he’d get paid and I know that isn’t suppose to matter since Sting is a reborn Christian but it looks a bit that way. I’m no one to put judgement on anybody cause I fuck up alot. Though at the same time, if it was about the money then he would of whined up in the E. I have a theory and I truly believe that in order for TNA to get him to resign was guaranteeing him a title run. That’s just me though. I have alot of respect of Sting do to him being one of the few not to go to the WWF/E during his whole run in WCW while his buddy Luger, Flair and others are did a stint in it. If he didn’t trust how he would be used in WWE then what is he thinking now. When Hogan turned heel, it was the right timing and Hogan still had good run but he was also younger than when whoever decided to change Sting again. Back when he changed from blonde hair, in your face and very charismatic Sting to the Crow Sting, it was something that was cool because it was done at the right timing. Not to mention when he was kicking the NWO’s ass, it made for good tv. That is until they decided to make him join the NWO red only to change him back. So what do we learn from this? IMO Sting is willing to sit through the bullshit that comes from ignorance which doesn’t make the Stinger look to good. He’s had a great run and this shitty Joker gimmick is getting old really quick. It’s not like he needs something like this to get him over with anybody so the real question is why is doing it? Because of what I just said? Why am I seeing one of my all time favorite wrestlers act like a jack ass every week? I really hope for all the fans including myself that this is just a faze and he drops this stupid shit and go back to what he was not to long ago. I’d be happy just to not have him being like this but what do you expect when you got dumb asses running the place with someone who doesn’t know shit about wrestling in general who hired these fuckheads in the first place. It’s just hard to watch. TNA is hanging on by a thin thread with fans if it hasn’t shown every week and they’re about to lose one more very very soon.

Sting should've signed a legends contract and been put to use as a trainer or ambassador after his match vs Undertaker.

HBK is born-again as well, so I don’t really see that as a point. But his legacy would’ve been more secure with a boxed set of his greatest matches, as well as a classy send-off and perhaps an HOF induction. Anything better than a character that stumbles around like Jeff Hardy.

He'll still get the DVDs and HoF

Vince does own the best part of Sting’s video career, and you don’t have to wrestle for WWE to be eligible for the Hall. But yeah, they should have happened a few years ago.

I have a whole different take on why Sting didn’t sign with the WWE and it’s not because he loves TNA which he does. But because Vince simply didn’t give him what he needed, Sting isn’t going to work a full WWE schedule and he’s not going to just show up and be at the mercy of the crappy bookers in the WWE. So he’s going to need a light schedule and some creative control and unless Vince changes his stance on those things Sting will continue with TNA until his body gives in on him.

you are right, when you talk about Sting at RR 11, it’s like that alone would have sent thousands of ex WCW fans who have stop watching to tune into WWE and buy the PPVs. Too bad he resigned with TNA and end up with Jeff Hardy on PPV.

i actuall liked

I actually liked his joker look. It went on just long enough. And sting has some creative authority, so it was mostg likely him himself who did his joker look… as for him going to the WWE I do not think he EVER will. I know it would both excite me and disappoint me if he ever does wrestle in a WWE ring. Because to be technical he has wrestled for Vince… the last nitro.sting is my favorite wrestler. I did not and do not care if as a heel or face. I just hope tna gets their crap together and put on more wrestling and maybe only 10 mins of talk and crap… I feel the 15 mins of wrestling is good so just trade the wrestling and the talk and wham 100 percent better…
