Black Friday: WWE releases Melina, Chris Masters, Vladimir Kozlov and David Hart Smith

Photo

That axe is a-grinding.

WWE "future endeavored" a slew of superstars today, some expected and one in particular that is more than a little surprising. Here's the list, so far:

  • Melina
  • Chris Masters
  • Vladimir Kozlov
  • David Hart Smith

Of course Melina is gone, considering the myriad of backstage and on-air issues present with her in recent months. David Hart Smith was fully expected and frankly, it's surprising that it's taken this long.

Kozlov was written off on Smackdown and his role in the company has lacked any meaningful significance since his failed push of long ago.

The surprise comes with Chris Masters, who gained himself a decent organic following online but was never quite given the opportunity to showcase his talents after making his way back to WWE.

Thoughts on the bloodletting, as Major called it?

I had no idea Masters had a following. His release really doesn’t surprise me that much. He’d probably gone as high up the WWE food chain as he was going to go.

Of course I would have guessed someone like Primo would have been future endeavored before Masters.

I guess...

Masters had a series of pretty good matches on Superstars which endured him to the IWC in some form or fashion.

More like a years plus of matches.

Wow people still use IWC non-ironically.

I'm most surprised Masters never got any sort of title run at all

Not even a tag reign back when he and Carlito were teaming

What's to say?

WWE has way too many people on the roster. Creative isn’t very creative, lesser wrestlers NEVER get a break, and we end up with yet another Cena/Orton stranglehold on the top (yeah, I know Christian has the title, don’t count on it lasting). Maybe if more airtime was allotted to wrestling, and less to jibber-jabber, one or two other guys might have a chance to break through. Of course, that would rob us of such brilliance as the laptop GM and Michael Cole, so forget I mentioned it.

Roadhouse!

It's a few years late

But this is punishment for working stiff against Stevie Richards and breaking his nose.

It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.

I'm surprised Kozlov was released

Everyone loved him and Santino right, enough to push them to the belt (ugh). I’m disappointed, a little. Sure, we need to be PC and PG and all that, but you gotta have a sterotypical ‘evil Russian’-type character in wrestling!

No Cody Rhodes?
