Are we headed for Sin Cara versus Sin Cara? Super Smackdown would indicate yes
If you watched last night's Super Smackdown or read Geno's recap and thoughts on the show (if you haven't, what are you waiting for?? Click here, dagnabit!), you know that after a surprisingly botch-free match with Daniel Bryan, Sin Cara seemed to turn rudo.
A post-match handshake led to a swift kick to Bryan's jaw while the now-seemingly malicious Sin Cara stood over and stared at "Mr. Money in the Bank" while a stunned Wichita, KS crowd looked on.
Some fans may be asking what the purpose of this heel turn was. I will go ahead and answer that question with one of my own:
Anybody remember SummerSlam 1994?
During that year's Royal Rumble, then-champ Yokozuna (plus the entire heel roster of the WWF at the time, it seems like) defeated The Undertaker in a Casket Match. Then, in one of pro wrestling's goofiest moments, 'Taker's "spirit" (or Marty Jannetty?) rose to the ceiling and the "Dead Man" wasn't seen for several months.
In reality, 'Taker was taking some time off and healing up. When the time came for the big return, the WWF ran an angle where Ted DiBiase -- who storyline-wise originally brought 'Taker into the promotion back in 1990 -- claimed he had tracked down the "Man from Death Valley."
The UnderFaker -- portrayed by Brian Lee -- had several squash matches until long-time manager Paul Bearer called shenanigans and claimed that he, in fact, had found the one, true Undertaker.
This led to a match between the two at SummerSlam 1994 where Bearer's 'Taker won while DiBiase's UnderFaker was banished from the WWF -- at least until he returned three years later as Chainz, a member of the Disciples of Apocalypse.
What does any of this have to with with Sin Cara? Pipe down, I'll get to that!
The Sin Cara "character" has gotten over quickly with young kids. That's basically the only reason they've kept the character around after a multitude of drama. Cageside's Keith Harris will bring you up to speed here.
But can you blame the kids? Awesome mask combined with flippy flopping all over the ring? Hell, all Utimate Warrior needed to reel us in was facepaint and a head of hair with about three cans on Aqua Net on it.
The WWE wanted to continue selling the t-shirts, the arm sleeves, and the masks (one of each will run you around $100 on their website, good lawd!) while the original Sin Cara -- heretofore referred to as Mistico Cara -- served his time for a Wellness Policy violation. So they called up FCW wrestler Hunico -- heretofore referred to as Hunico Cara -- to take up the mantle in the meantime.
But as Harris explained, Mistico Cara wasn't only in hot water for the Wellness violation. Botched spots and a poor backstage attitude had the Mexican luchadore rubbing quite a few people the wrong way. When he returned from the suspension, he was told that Hunico Cara would continue on with the gimmick that had been especially made for the former CMLL star.
So one could assume that Mistico Cara would soon be fired since the WWE has a guy trained in lucha libre style to wear the Sin Cara mask. And that would make sense except having the Sin Cara turn heel last night is a poor business decision. Why make the character a villain and have him hated by the fanbase -- the kiddos -- that kept it on television to begin with?
According to Jim Cornette, wrestling storylines or gimmicks can be reused after seven years have passed. In the case of Sin Cara, it seems Vince McMahon went ahead and tacked on another decade just to be safe.
The rumors of a Cara vs. Cara feud seem to have some legs. Hunico Cara will earn heat by cheapshotting guys like Bryan before Mistico Cara shows up to put the pretender to the throne in his place.
Several of you Cagesiders have predicted the same thing and with good reason since it makes a lot of sense. Neither Mistico Cara or Hunico Cara are bad workers. Hell, the former had Mexico in the palm of his hand for a few years while the latter has made the rounds through AAA, TNA, and Chikara Pro before getting scooped up by the WWE.
The problem is that a lot of WWE talent aren't comfortable working with their lucha libre style and as a result, the matches have a tendency to turn out... botchy.
What the WWE seems keen on doing is having both Caras work a program together, make each other look like a million bucks while simulatenously allowing them to adapt their style to something more WWE-friendly much like Rey Mysterio has done. Rey Rey still busts out the high-flying moves but does so within a certain framework that the company has established.
Now how they go about setting up this feud between two seemingly mute wrestlers is anyone's guess. Perhaps Hunico Cara pulls a similar stunt to what he did last night and Mistico Cara comes out to show him what's what. It won't take long to realize which Cara is "good" and which is "evil."
Either way, this looks like a way to salvage one of Triple H's pet projects. He was personally responsible for signing Mistico and Kharma and both have failed to pan out as originally hoped.

What ever happened to that whole
Kane vs Kane thing awhile back?
That dude they had as the masked Kane looked pretty big. Beat up Kane a few times on RAW, then it ended. I think they even had with with Paul Bearer if I remember?
Damn this is the second dick that Nog had to pull out of my ass and beat me over the head with! As couture wasnt bad enough. Dont doubt NNR or even more Big Nog.

Not a fan of this sort of setup
Faker, Black Scorpion, masked tag teams that switch mid-match, it’s all too simple and cheesy. At least this one has a decent reason behind it.
My fellow Americans, I have not been entirely truthful with you. I did gagoogidy that girl. I gashmoygadied her gaflavity with my googus. And I am sorry.
Not into lucha but.....
I’m not usually a fan of the lucha style but watching the way mistico moves (despite the botches) blew my mind when he debuted. Hunico seems pretty good but he is nowhere near as fluid moving or charismatic as mistico. Hope this is all a work and mistico is coming back.

I’d like to see the Hebner twins work a lucha style bout to end their good vs. evil feud. Winner gets to keep the profits for the black market merchandise sales.
It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.

While Kane is out injured he’ll really be coming back as Fake Diesel and bring back nWo Wolfpack and will recruit Hunico’s Sin Cara! It’s all so obvious.

How are they going to explain all this to the fans?
Neither Sin Cara has spoke so far. I’ll go on the assumption that neither will in the foreseeable future. If they’re going to be doing storyline things with him- especially something as complicated as a ‘fake’ Sin Cara turning heel to sully the ‘real’ Sin Cara’s good name- they’re going to have to find a way to relay all that to the audience.

It'd be hard without speaking. But Hunico speaks English so I could see it going something like this
Hunico: I busted my ass off for x amount of years in developmental waiting for a call-up while you got weeks of vignettes, a debut on Raw, MITB match blah blah blah you got injured I saw an opportunity, the bosses always say to grab that brass ring etc.
Jerry Lawler slams his reasonable logic and bam we got a clear heel with a motive.
LeBron James - 0 Charles Barkley - 0 Karl Malone/John Stockton - 0 Sun Yue -1
Or you can bring in Armando Alejandro Estrada
And make him claim that he bought Sin Cara’s contract, only for another Sin Cara to show up and hurricanrana both of them out of the building

Sin Cara vs Sin Cara
i think that the WWE has planned well for this feud, they worked the internet fans with the news that Sin Cara was gone from WWE then had a heel turn out of the blue with the second Sin Cara. All in all, the Sin Cara vs Sin Cara WWE feud will be fun, even if it’s not the first time we have seen the impostor storyline.
Sin Cara vs Sin Cara
I agree with ufc120. I’m sure this is and will be the most exciting “imposter storyline”. Besides, neither Taker or Kane nor their respective counterparts were high-flyers, and that adds even more excitment to the feud and the single matches. Very glad Mistico’s back, anyway
