SummerSlam 1991 recall: Bret Hart vs Mr. Perfect for the Intercontinental championship (Video)
As shown on this past Monday night's edition of Raw, here's the video flashback package of Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect at Summerslam 1991 for the Intercontinental championship.
Most noticeable when watching this is how much better the commentary was at that time. Gorilla Monsoon, Roddy Piper and Bobby Heenan were an unbeatable team with the perfect mix of enthusiasm, knowledge, delivery and timing. Absolutely perfect!
This is further evidenced by Heenan's money line just over a minute into the video: "Perfect will be in the showers in 10 minutes."
Hart would defeat Perfect that night to win the Intercontinental title in a classic match. Enjoy.

Monsoon & Ventura still set the announcing standard in WWE history. Nobody will ever touch these two.

One of my all-time favorite match
I really wish WWE could get back to the mid-card belts like the Intercontinental and U.S. titles mattering this much. This felt like a huge deal.
Hearing how messed up Hennig’s back was, yet he still toughed it out in order to put Bret over, only adds to the match’s lore.
Writer (and a handsome one at that),
And the Valley Shook
I agree
The IC strap mattered at one point…

This is the standard
for not only secondary belt importance, but the entire program with hennig and hart is a shining example of how to elevate a lower-mid carder (hart) to the next level. Perfect was firmly placed as the number 2 champion during this time, having just come out of a money feud with the Texas Tornado, which was also very well done. Also, Perfect ‘rep’ as a strong #2 heel benefited profusely from his mini-programs with Hogan and Warrior the year before. In my eyes, he was the quintessential Intercontinental champion – At the very top of the second tier, placed just below the main eventers. Bret winning was a VERY big deal, and that reflects the level that Mr. Perfect was seen at, during this period. One of my favourite matches ever, from 2 of my favourite wrestlers ever. One has to wonder just how far Perfect could have gone had he not been so injured coming out of the match. By the time he returned, his momentum had cooled off considerably, which is a shame.
Sorry.
Unfortunately, sometimes WWE (as well as UFC and plenty of other content providers) only allow certain videos in certain countries. I have no idea why they do this.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.
