WWE officials also told GLAAD this morning that CM Punk's contract will expire in a few weeks, he will not be immediately renewed, and he will no longer be with WWE as of July 18. A spokesperson told us "this departure is not part of a storyline. He is contractually leaving the organization."

A spokesperson for the WWE told us "We are taking this very seriously."

I just thought I should remind everyone that CM Punk's official leaving date was today not yesterday. So the most likely scenario is that Punk gets screwed out of the title tonight on Raw. Though you can never discount the possibility that WWE has lied to gullible GLAAD over their storylines again. After all, in 2002 the Billy and Chuck gay wedding didn't go as GLAAD was told it would, with WWE even telling them that the wedding had taken place and all was well, after they had already taped the bait and switch.

As of July 18th

Does not mean the same as the end of July 18th. As of means as soon as it occurs. Like … midnight.

It’d actually make more sense for CM Punk to be jumped in Chicago somewhere before midnight by Daniel Bryan in a Hardcore Rules falls count anywhere match with Bryan’s Money In The Bank cashed in. Bryan wins a few seconds before midnight. Even have a clock in the corner of the camera picture to tease the time limit.

I fail at English, but you should have pointed that out in my original article. That said, I still expect Punk to be all over Raw, rubbing it in Vince’s face that he has possession of his WWE title, but somehow Vince takes the title back by the end of the show. I mean rarely does a big star finish on a PPV, they always try to squeeze a last appearance or two on TV before being written out of the storylines.

I fully believe he’s re-signed. Everyone involved has kept up with saying that he hasn’t, but obviously, they’re not going to tell us different when the entire angle for a PPV is based on Punk leaving with the belt. They’ll try to sell us on a last minute agreement being made, but that contract was signed after Punk’s “shoot”. Come on guys. He had a BRAND NEW SHIRT commemorating the night. People in the crowd had the shirt. They must have made an absolute killing with that in Chicago. I want one, which is saying something, because I haven’t owned a piece of wrestling ANYTHING let alone clothing since I was in grade school.

When writing that comment I ended up getting into a rant about how GLAAD can go on somewhere with their outrageous overreactions. Basically, Punk was pretty damn tame, and even then, he apologized right away and owned up to it.

Punk hasn’t been an enemy of the gay community, there’s no reason GLAAD should want to see a guy out of a job for something like this. Maybe they’re just mad at his awesome facial hair.

WWE would only have themselves to blame if GLAAD gets mad at them for being misled that they were punishing Punk harder than they actually were. They didn’t have to give the perception to GLAAD that they weren’t re-signing Punk over using a gay slur at a house show. There’s no evidence that GLAAD wanted Punk fired over this incident, just train their talent in the same way they trained their writers.
