WWE Money in the Bank 2011 Preview: CM Punk Cuts Masterful Promos with John Cena and Vince McMahon

The hype for tonight's WWE Money in the Bank has reached unexpected heights, with CM Punk putting on some of the best performances on the microphone this past month.  Speculation is running rampant today, will Punk be leaving with the title?  Will he really be leaving?  Will the MITB winner spoil Punk's departure with the WWE title?  There's a ton of questions swirling around tonight's main event, and we're only hours away from having them answered.  For this Money in the Bank preview, we're going to take a look at the key segments of this CM Punk vs. John Cena angle.

First off, the "shoot" promo that set the WWE Universe ablaze.

It still hasn't gotten old.  I would have loved to see what the WWE could have accomplished if they didn't have to tape the next episode of Raw that night due to their Australian tour, as the hype had died down a little after a week where everyone with an internet connection had spoiled themselves.  After the jump, CM Punk cuts his megaphone promo after returning to Raw, reinstated by Vince McMahon, and then, the live contract negotiations featuring Punk, McMahon, and Cena.

Star-divide

Is it just me, or was the megaphone alarm part more awesome than it should have been?  Finally, here is Vince McMahon getting quite a bit of face time during the CM Punk contract negotiations.  I try to refrain from disliking Cena, but he just about kills all the momentum this segment had when he starts talking.

I'm optimistic about what will go down tonight, as MITB looks to be an excellent PPV event, and the WWE Universe may very well be turned on it head come the end of the night.  Will CM Punk and his awesome facial hair overcome the odds and leave Chicago with the WWE title?  Personally, I hope so.  I'll use any excuse to get rid of that atrocious spinner belt.

in my opinion

Cena needs to turn heel and develop a new move set. His character is as stale as old moldy bread.

Although Chavo seemed to be spiteful in his rant about Cena, he had a lot of solid points and really echoed a lot of what fans think and feel. I can’t help but think if they don’t evolve him soon (yes, like a pokemon, with four moves) those kids who were crazy about him will hit that age where squeaky clean doesn’t appeal to them.

Even if they didn’t want to make him a real heel, they could spin it like vigilante justice or some crap. Something a little edgier, but he’d still be “good”. If he can’t come up with some more moves, give him a weapon of choice to spice things up (anything but brass knuckles). A good time for something like that would be during a feud with Del Rio, because hey, who hasn’t ever wanted to beat a rich snob with a 2×4? The more I think about it, the more I think that a vigilante Cena would actually work quite well.

That said, who knows. After tonight the landscape could very well be changed drastically.

I actually think his moveset is fine. For me, it’s the WAY he does his moves.

His STF looks like it doesn’t hurt and his Attitude Adjustment is more of a weak ass firemens carry slam than a Death Valley Driver. His fishermens suplex sucks and I can go on and on.

Make or break night for WWE tonight. If they hit a homerun I’m a PPV customer fro the rest of the year. If they don’t then I check a few Raw’s and will buy Rock/Cena@WM. I am sure more than a few people feel the same way. If John Cena closes this show holding that belt in the air after some super hero booking they are D_E_A_D.

Agreed. I’ll be watching until Wrestlemania at least.

I’ll even be happy with a Money in the Bank winner beating Punk for the title to end the show.

But closing with Super Hero Cena? I’d hate it.

It would blow my mind if he did show up in NJPW or ROH at least a few times before he goes back. Well, if he goes back.
