CM Punk Suspended by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon After Shoot Promo on Raw

CM Punk delivered one of the most memorable "shoot" promos of all time to close out Monday night's Raw, but it wasn't without it's repercussions.  Via WWE.com:

Raw’s abrupt conclusion Monday night was not due to technical difficulties. The decision to suddenly end the broadcast in that manner was made by WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, who gave this quote to WWE.com:

"CM Punk was suspended indefinitely for his unprofessional conduct as soon as Raw went off the air."

As it stands, it looks as though Punk might be starting his break from the WWE early, but he doesn't strike me as one who let's a suit like McMahon get the last laugh.  No, I believe things are just beginning to get interesting.

I’ve said it all over the place tonight, but this was easily the best segment I’ve seen since I began watching WWE again this year. Even then, it tops some of the great moments from when I was watching years and years ago.

So, let’s hear it. Work? Real shoot? Little bit of both? I’m excited to see where this is going, even if it means waiting for an extended period of time for Punk to return.

Because then his return is going to be HUGE.

I have no idea whether it's a work or not

But it was the most compelling thing I’ve seen on Raw since the original NXT jumping of Cena.

And in the same vein, I expect Vince to let it completely go to waste.

My guess and this is a legitimate guess though I'll try and get confirmed by my buddy at WWE

They’re transitioning back to the attitude era type promos. He’s resigned with the WWE and will challenge for the title at Money In The Bank brought back by someone in the company. Win and start a feud with the whole locker room.

There’s no way it wasn’t. Just looking at the CM Punk/Kane thing. Kane was right there (and then suddenly at the ramp in 10 seconds)…plush the Big Show/Del Rio cage match that had some significant things going on (cage falling apart, Show getting destroyed by Henry again).

That said, it’s for this very reason I think the pillow match should have happened. lol

Gotta be worked...

I was doubting until I heard the full version all put together. The 3:25 clip plus the 1:32 clip leaves out the giveaway for me; the “Get a job!” part. Such an obvious “boo me I’m the heel” part. Still the best and most intriguing promo I’ve ever heard.

They're going all out then.

WWE.com says Vinny Mac suspended him and they took his profile off the roster.

I think it’s always safe to assume a pro wrestling company is working you until they say otherwise. And then it’s still safe to assume you’re getting worked.

by Mike Fagan on Jun 28, 2011 1:52 AM EDT up reply actions

Ha this is pretty perfect.

Because saying he’s suspended and then taking him off WWE.com will only make us talk about him more and tune in to see what happens. It’s actually kinda brilliant.

Still a better happening than this Raw 4 years ago…………..

by rovert on Jun 28, 2011 2:34 AM EDT reply actions

If Punk was going off script, his mic would have cut out and they'd have stopped broadcasting much earlier

The timing of cutting him off was too perfect for it to be reflexive decision making.

Plus it’d be too easy to book Punk in a match with a ‘policeman’ who can shoot on him in ring if WWE were genuinely concerned about losing control. There aren’t many legitimately skilled guys left there but there are some who could put punk in his place if need be (eg. Smith, Danielson).

by KJ Gould on Jun 28, 2011 6:04 AM EDT reply actions

Which begs the question though

How many of those “legit” guys would WWE trust to not take it easy on Punk, considering that they’re in a similar mold and lower on the card? (i.e. Danielson probably being at least comradely and professional with Punk backstage)

I do agree though that the timing was WAY too perfect for snap decision, considering that it was essentially “Let me tell you a story about—”

Us: “What was the story about! Tell us more!”

by Chortles on Jun 28, 2011 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Money changes a lot of things

I doubt it’ll even come to it since odds favour it as being a work, but if there’s ever a circumstance where WWE need someone to take a title off someone who’s gone into business for themselves, an under the table bonus check will likely be enough to get things done.

by KJ Gould on Jun 28, 2011 10:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Epic promo

Work schedule forces me to go to bed early these days, so I caught it on YouTube.

Freaking. Amazing.

I think he signed the new contract and they’re keeping it quiet. Just my guess, but this seems like the beginning of something huge.

by noobmaster on Jun 28, 2011 8:27 AM EDT reply actions

This was really beautiful.

Too elegant, pointed and long to be anything but a turning point in brand direction. CM Punk is absolutely amazing on the mic.

by misterjonez on Jun 28, 2011 8:59 AM EDT reply actions

Incredible

Even though it was worked, it was pulled off so wonderfully. heres to hoping they dont drop the ball with this gem….

You know

If Roth’s bit about this signaling the rise of some sort of anti-establishment stable/faction, Dave Batista’s not doing anything and joining Punk to battle the “ass-kissers” would completely fit the note he went out on.
