Reviews in for WWE Studios' "The Chaperone" starring Triple H
Well, reviews are in for The Chaperone, the latest WWE Films project starring Triple H, and the results are...not good, quite frankly. At time of writing the movie (which co-stars Modern Family's Ariel Winter and Yeardley Smith a.k.a Lisa Simpson) is currently sitting at a dismal 21% over at Rotten Tomatoes. Lou Lumenick of the New York Post says: 'Stephen Herek's "The Chaperone" is dreadful enough to make you wish Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was still making family movies.' Variety's Ronnie Schieb is even more scathing: "Presumably there's an audience out there for old-fashioned, poorly written, unevenly thesped, family-friendly tales of redemption starring beefy wrestlers and a bunch of kids, but it's difficult to imagine who." Slant Magazine's Nick Schager writes a withering review insisting: "This hulk-with-a-heart-of-gold fable embraces banalities with a vigor only matched by its lack of imagination." Ouch. And The Orlando Sentinel's Roger Moore is critical as well, stating: "It's enough to make you throw in the towel on the whole WWE movie making cage match."
Not all the reviews are unkind, though.Rex Reed of The New York Observer praises HHH's performance, calling it "unpretentious" and saying the wrestler-turned-actor has "unexpected charms". He also complimented the direction of Stephen Herek. Additionally, Prairie Miller of NewsBlaze applauds HHH's acting skills, noting: "Levesque keeps the combo solemn and silly plot points rolling nicely along, and displays a surprisingly tender side that meshes smoothly with his more ferocious tendencies." She also claims the movie "is not quite always as mindless as it seems." Hmmm, faint praise indeed.

This is actually more offensive than Rex Reed's take on Oldboy.

What else is new?...
Aside from the "pop" his return will certainly generate, at this stage of his career, what he contributes behind the scenes to influence talent along with strengthening and broadening of the WWE product will be his legacy. From what I’ve seen of the WWE film division, with Kane’s movie, the only one to bring in any type of positive review and revenue. It’s something obviously aside from their product, that they are unable to develop. And anybody that really gets over will high tail it for Hollywood! And we’ll have to wait 7 years before they’re able to find time in their hectic schedule to return the favor! Invest in building your core product; China… Lots of untapped potential out there!
