WWE TLC 2011 match card updated after Dec. 9 episode of Smackdown
WWE TLC 2011 is right around the corner, as the pay-per-view event is all set to pop off at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, on Dec. 18. Tonight's episode of Smackdown saw the addition of another match to the card as well as a match that had already been announced getting its stipulation.
Here's how the card looks with just the go-home shows on Raw and Smackdown until the event:
-- CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. The Miz in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match for the WWE championship
As mentioned earlier this week, gimmick matches like this are the result of creatively bankrupt writers who are tired of getting their ideas shot down by a madman and finally go back to the well for a triple threat between champion, challenger who makes sense and challenger who doesn't really make any sense but gets thrown in because he makes the most sense of the rest of the available talent. Punk wins and we gear up for Rumble.
-- Mark Henry vs. Big Show in a Chairs match for the World Heavyweight Championship
These two continued their feud tonight with another nice promo between the two but the shelf life on this promo has come and gone. This should be the blowoff match to the feud but I imagine it will be difficult to top what they've done in previous matches.
-- Triple H vs. Kevin Nash in a ladder match
This isn't really a ladder match in the traditional sense. The stipulation here is that a sledgehammer will be suspended above the ring and whoever gets to it will be able to use it to attack his opponent with no repercussions. But the match will still end via pinfall or submission. The stupidity of this entire thing makes my brain hurt.
-- Dolph Ziggler vs. Zack Ryder for the United States Championship
This match is happening about a month after it should have gone down but at least it's finally going to take place. Not a big fan of how they got here but at least we're getting it. It will make absolutely zero sense if Ryder doesn't get the belt here but even WWE can't be this dense. Ryder also gets the benefit of the best worker on the roster putting him over, and Ziggler can move on to the main event scene. Hopefully, this ends up being a win for everybody.
-- Cody Rhodes vs. Booker T for the Intercontinental Championship
I can imagine Booker being pitched on this program and his thinking going in being, "It's time to put the kid over." Sure, Rhodes is coming out of a feud with Randy Orton but he wasn't able to do as much as Booker will be able to. This should be one of the best matches on the entire card and could very well be the match we look back on as the night Rhodes became a star.
-- Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett in a Tables match
I don't like this feud and I don't like this match. Not because it won't be any good, because we've seen Orton get great matches out of just about anybody, but because I'm a member of the contingent that doesn't see much value in Barrett as a main event player. He was great in his role as the original leader of Nexus but he's struggled to find a voice since then. The Barrett Barrage schtick is just a bit too campy for my tastes. Again, though, it's Orton, so at least the match will work.
That's how the match card looks, Cagesiders. Worth spending your money on? Or are you buckling down and just preparing for the Royal Rumble?

bookin wise
its a lame ppv, match wise, its not that bad
Punk/Del Rio/Miz
we know del rio and punk can pull good matches, hopefully miz wont slow them down
Rhodes/Booker
I have great expectations from this match, rhodes has nice skills and booker is always very entertaining in that ring
Ziggler/Ryder
this one will probably be a good match since these guys are friends and work well together only thing that could ruin this one if ziggler retaining which would be STUPID
Orton/Barret
im not diggin this feud either, barret is lacking a lot of character, i think he seriously need a complete repackage, on the other hand, i bet its gonna be a pretty good match
Henry/Show
unless Kane returns, this is the most MEH match of the night
HHH/Nash
ready to bet who tears a quad first in this match? my money is on nash lol
Henry/Show
unless Kane returns, this is the most MEH match of the night
If Kane returns, it’ll mean a three match series between Henry and Kane, and the only thing WWE could possibly do that would be worse than that would be to reignite the Cena/Miz feud.
probably
but think about it, kane goes out with the mask and maybe his old theme and chokeslams henry to end the match, that would be the spotlight of the show for sure
besides, mark henry was just stupified by john cena last monday, seriously what could be worse than that, even if its gettin stale, henry needs to keep that belt till someone gets properly built to take it or we’ll end up with another pointless reign
they arent building sheamus anymore, and bryan seems to be pretty busy dealing with michael cole smh, i really have no idea whos gonna take that thing from henry
It'll probably be Dragon in a heel turn/MitB cash in, but it really doesn't matter.
WWE hasn’t been building anybody up to take the belt from Henry because they have zero plans of making whoever gets the belt from Henry important. If they cared about grooming a guy to take the belt from Henry and have it matter, they would’ve started booking it months ago. The exact same thing happened with the Kane title reign last year.
So let me get this straight...
The Trips-Nash “ladder” match is essentially going to be a glorified Sledgehammer on a Pole match. …Oy.
Time to spread a little chaos...
The dumbest part to me about that match is the fact that they're fighting eachother in a ladder match so they can use a sledgehammer as a weapon.
It’s completely ass-backwards psychology that has no right to have ever been brought up in a booking meeting, much less actually used in a match.
Wade Barret was really cool when he was in NXT with Jericho.
I honestly think Wade would be better off siding with Regal for character and storyline purposes and that Regal’s a veteran who can teach his fellow Englishman a lot of techniques.
Wade would be the top heel in the company if Vince McMahon didn't job him beneath the Earth.
Barrett is nothing special in the ring, but he’s solid, has the potential to learn much more, and is already one of the best promos in the company. It’s really sad what happened to him.
I'd rather see Barrett and del Rio team up as dominant Tag Team champions.
They’re both on the peripheral of championship feuds (well, del Rio will be if he doesn’t win at TLC), and I honestly can’t think of a decent feud for these guys heading towards Wrestlemania….there’s always a few top tier wrestlers who seem to get “left out” of the run-up to the big day, so why not do something with the tag belts and make these two an “unstoppable” team? Do it soon, and maybe they’ll have two really good faces to feud with in April.
I don't think this PPV is looking too good
WWE Championship:Should be entertaining
Heavyweight Championship: The feud is stale and the first two matches weren’t very good in my opinion.
U.S Championship: Should be entertaining
Intercontinental Championship: Not holding my breath, with Booker being old and rusty
Nash vs. HHH: Same as above, but worse. Much worse.
Orton vs. Barrett: Should be entertaining

Am I the only one who loves Barrett?
I think a lot of people are just “meh” on him, but I love him. He’s great.
I think the problem with the WWE as a whole right now is instead of letting guys like Barrett dominate the mid-card for a while, they get pushed up with the big boys and it all seems forced. I remember when HHH and The Rock were feuding over the Intercontinental title. They both had huge, huge potential, but were making the IC strap seem relevant. If you let Barrett and Rhodes feud over the strap for an extended period of time, it would have been fantastic. Instead, Rhodes is defending his IC title against a commentator? ugh. Build up the mid-card, please.
That never stopped things before
In just the past year or so, Randy Orton and Legacy fought, and all three were heels. Miz and Alex Reilly were both heels. For a few weeks, Swagger and Dolph Ziggler had a little mini-feud going for Vicky’s services.

He became a face arbitrarily when he physically turned on Miz
But, he was still a hell when he went about doing it.

WHAT DA HAYELL are you talking about Geno!!!!? According to some people I talk wrestling with Orton gets carried 24/7(even though they don’t realize somebody doesn’t have to be carried in a match & Orton doesn’t need to be carried) another thing they say is Punk carries everybody & a feud with Dolph Ziggler would only be good if Punk carried it.
On a serious note I agree that the match should be great except for the don’t see much value in Barrett part.
