On this date in NJPW history: A New Jersey native goes to Japan to compete in Russia
Wait, what?
After he initially made his mark in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), but long before he joined up with World Championship Wrestling (WCW), New Jersey native Scott Charles "Bam Bam" Bigelow was a regular competitor under the New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) banner, where he would become best known for winning the tag team titles along with Big Van Vader.
On December 31, 1989, Bigs and a group of NJPW wrestlers took their act on the road. Well, more specifically, they took it to the Lenin Stadium in Moscow, Russia, for "New Japan in the USSR."
The Beatles would have been proud.
After nine-plus minutes of action, Bam Bam pinned part-time attraction Vladimir Berkovich. Full results from that event, which also included Jushin Liger vs. Black Tiger, after the jump.
