On this date in WCW history: The Giant gets kicked out of the nWo
Long before Hollywood Hulk Hogan ruined his big money match-up against Sting and broke little Geno Mrosko's heart, he was ruling the roost as chief, cook and bottle washer of the New World Order (nWo).
Thanks to "Trillionaire Ted" (DiBiase), the nWo was able to acquire The Giant, real name Paul Wight, back on Sept. 2, 1996, who was so enamored with the lifestyles of the Hulk and famous that he signed on the dotted line, no questions asked.
Which is why he should have never asked for a WCW title shot.
That belt belonged to Hulkster, and there was no way he was going to take time out of his busy schedule of burning down orphanages and starving puppies to let the artist now known as The Big Show to get his shot.
Because the Giant "dropped the ball."
It all goes down on the Dec. 30 edition of Monday Nitro, which included a massive beatdown of "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, who defeated Hogan in a non-title bout the night before at Starrcade.
See how it all unfolded, after the jump.
And for my money, the best part of this entire clip is Piper screaming incoherently as they haul him away on the stretcher.
How did you prefer your "Giant," in the nWo or out?

I was never a fan of the Giant
I don’t even care for him as the Big Show. I can’t grasp the reason why anybody could enjoy watching a lumbering oaf in the ring.
He was very agile when he was young.
Now he’s a lumbering oaf
Greatest lover ever during the day, Trainyard Sleeper at night.
Gotta love all the trash being thrown

The screaming by Piper was great...
but I chuckled more at Heenan’s “I didn’t even do that to my people” comment. The man could deliver a line.

Heenan was
and will always be the best color man. They knew how to get you to hate him yet still laugh at him
