R-Truth returns on Raw to attack Miz, is met with near total apathy
Lost amidst all the hoopla on Raw last night (Dec. 26, 2011) was the fact that R-Truth made his return after serving a 30-day suspension for a Wellness Policy violation.
And he did so during a really convoluted segment with The Miz and John Cena. While Miz was cutting a promo after getting embarrassed by Cena inside the ring, Truth's music hit and something really strange happened.
No one reacted. The crowd at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, which is a fairly smart crowd, simply acted as though it was just another run-in from just another old superstar.
Truth proceeded to viciously attack Miz to reveal that he will now be a babyface by default but he'll keep his crazy insane character. He's still raging against little Jimmys and using water bottles to crack his foes across the skull. He's still got those crazy eyes and faraway stares.
He's still nuts.
Unfortunately, at least last night, no one seemed to care. Truth is a great performer who executes his character about as well as anyone could ask for. In fact, if tasked with playing a character like his, I'm not sure there's another guy on the entire WWE roster who could pull it off as well.
But it's just not connecting. He had potential as a heel and it was working for a while but they killed that by teaming him with The Miz and then having them look weak as the foils to The Rock and John Cena and now Truth is back as a face with a character better suited to be a heel.
And if last night was any indication, we're in for a long feud between Truth and Miz that will probably fail to ever pick up any real steam. Any Cagesiders feeling differently?
Video after the jump.

But it’s just not connecting.
Who can connect with a crazy guy? And not flamboyant crazy like Macho Man. Just plain “I’m gonna kill you” crazy

Curse you and your logic!
If anyone needs me, I’m going to go blow up The Statue Of Liberty and then climb the Empire State Building.
I just hope Truth doesn't suddenly become a face because people hate Miz more

That's what I'm worried about
R Truth was looking good in his heel turn. He was too funny to be a true heel, but his gimmick was working. If he does become a face for this feud, then I hope its a short-term feud and both guys will move on quickly so R Truth can do his thing.
Actually, I really liked Awesome Truth.
And speaking of such, almost every iconic wrestler we all know and love started out in a group or tag teams earlier in their careers, correct?

you know....The Miz seems like he'd be a good champion...for TNA!
…and having a former TNA champion beat him down just seemed to reinforce this.
Please future endevor Miz just to test this theory.
Even though I am not a fan of the Miz

I was genuinely happy to see him come out.
I mean, I was expecting Kane to come out, and kick everyone’s ass. Or, at least get Miz to shut-up and scurry to the back, while he played “guess the smell on my glove” again with Cena.
Truth coming out and making Miz his bitch, PLUS still being batshit insane, saved that shitpile of a segment, at least in my mind. I was enjoying the beatdown, and actually wasn’t paying attention to the crowd (which usually doesn’t happen, ever). Maybe I was OD’ing on Christmas leftovers. Maybe I was still full of Christmas spirit, or some shit like that. I don’t know, but I do hope the crowds warm up, and get into this more… ’cause Little Jimmy said it was okay.
Truth..
was getting over as a heel. He would put the crowd on blast & they reacted accordingly. Its really a shame that he couldn’t continue the smoking thing… God I hate our PC world.
Back to the topic.. Truth being a face isn’t a good thing. He’s got a difficult road to stay in the top tier. On the flip side w/ ADR being hurt, he had a chance to move up to a more prominent roll. I will say this.. Truth carried this further than I thought he would, so I will give him the benefit of doubt that he’ll make this work.

Absolutely
The first week or two, his being crazy schtick seemed dumb to me. After, it all made sense, and I was like, “Wow, R-Truth is actually interesting now!”

Why can't Truth go after Ryder?
Keep him heel against one of the fan favorites, and it would be a good foil. I don’t know who else is gonna heel it up against Ryder. I love Truth, so I hope he gets used correctly
So go forth, my brethren, and proceed to mark the f*ck out
That crowd had no idea what to do...
First they did nothing, then they cheered the brawl (I’m guessing for R-Truth), then they did the stupid “What?” chant like he’s a heel. Make up your minds!

This is hyperbole
The crowd was into the beginning of the segment, it just went on too far. To say near total apathy is a lie. Truths promo was confusing so they didn’t know how to react. Your piece is stretching it.
