Power Slam 2011 Top 50 Wrestlers

Home-img_medium

The British wrestling magazine Power Slam released its list of the top 50 wrestlers in 2011 recently and I don't know how credible this magazine is but some placements made sense to me, like Tanahashi, while others didn't, like Randy Orton.

And if you thought this was the year of CM Punk, well according to this list, you would be wrong.

The PS 50 is a list based on who the magazine believes had the most successful year based on two things: workrate and performance.

The complete list is after the almighty jump.

Bully Ray...

…has become a pretty solid heel, cuts great promos and is a fairly solid worker. He deserves to be on the list.

Miz…not so much. Same goes for Kofi, Jeff Jarrett & Sheamus.

i dont know about bully ray cuz i dont watch tna

and about the miz, well, at least hes not on the first 30, i dont think he deserves it…but i can believe the miz is the 48th spot if i have to lol

orton on the second place tho….that is pure madness, i would love to know what was the criteria this guys used to put him so high on the list, also i think punk deserved to be in the top 5 at least

and yeah some names in the first 20 are just insane, christian? really? after the sickening feud he had with orton? rey mysterio? i love rey but 2011 wasn’t even an average year for the guy, and John Morrison !! Mr. i job all the time cuz i love melina’s pussy, give me a break…

also, they didn’t include any luchador, guys like L.A park and El Mesias had great matches this year and they just gave a shit about that, i know lucha is not a mainstream, thing but cmon, you’re gonna put the puro guys in the list but not the lucha guys? cmoooon !!

The list has a definite slant

No pun intended. Well, kinda…

Yeah, there’s a problem when the only 2 Hispanic names on the list compete in WWE/RoH. Oh yeah, and Rey who spends most of his life in rehab.
I’ve not watched much from the Japanese feds (like none), but I get the impression they’re more “serious”, fighting more stiff, when compared to the high-flying lucha style. I can watch a wrestling match and just see it as wrestling; when I watch lucha, I’m very aware it’s a performance. Maybe that has something to do with it, whether it’s right or not.

I'm going to leave this comment up

but in the future, please avoid jokes like the “slant” one. Thanks.

mysterio had nothing to do in that list

del rio achieved what is probably (and sadly) gonna be the peak of his wwe career, so he really deserves a place in any top for 2011

also puroresu and lucha have more in common than most people think, in fact, njpw uses cmll in mexico as developmental for some of their guys

puroresu is like an indy/lucha fusion to me, only thing that sucks is you cant understand anything thats happening most of the time unless its a pretty obvious thing, most times i watch puro i dont even know whos the heel and whos the face lol

I only watch WWE & TNA & I completely agree Orton was the top guy this year out of both companies. He was great all year but people forget that because of what Punk did before Money in the Bank, even with Punk’s feud with Cena I’ll take Orton’s feud with Christian over it

What kind of list is this? Kayfabe accomplishments? Wrestling acumen? What is it? Because debating it would be silly without knowing the criteria.

I hate this list

It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.

The first 20 guys on this list=GOLD

The good:
Bobby Roode (22)
James Storm (37-should be higher)
Dolph Ziggler (38)
Austin Aries (43)
Bully Ray (46—solid heel)

The bad:
Randy Orton (2—just insane)
Christian Cage (Maybe 40’s, but not 6)
Kurt Angle (7)
Rey Mysterio (23—has been injured for so long anyways)
Kofi Kingston (45—what has he done to deserve this?)

And I actually have no problem with Miz being 48. He might not be great, but he works hard and headlined Wrestlemania. Also, although it might be “cool” to leave Cena out of these lists, the guy has still been the main event on most major WWE PPvs. Someone obviously likes him or else he wouldn’t be there. This is just like leaving Hogan out of the Top 50 on lists during the 90’s.

yeah i agree on cena

whether we like the guy or not, theres no denying hes been there doing his job and more important he’s been puting guys like punk and ryder over

I’d love to know what it would take for Angle to not be in their top ten.

by ThisOneGoesToEleven on Dec 26, 2011 12:56 PM EST reply actions

All right, if it’s based on workrate and performance, it’s not that bad of a list. Not the upper half, at least.

by Dedywre on Dec 26, 2011 4:33 PM EST reply actions

Though, really, there are a ton of people who would know better than me on this.
