Undertaker vs Triple H WrestleMania rematch planned for April 1 in Miami
The speculation over who would be the next guy to contest the streak at WrestleMania can come to an end. Well, plans change, of course, but that's fairly rare for bigger plans that the big dogs are on board with.
Triple H will rematch Undertaker at WrestleMania 28 next year on April 1, 2012 in Miami.
The seeds were planted last year when they did the spot where "The Game" told "The Deadman" he would see him again next year but that was forgotten when Taker left and all the focus has been on whether or not he's the mystery return man on Jan. 2.
But after listening to Triple H's promo last night on Raw, it became clear a rematch is what we're headed for. Here's the text of what he said:
"First of all, the Oh My God Moment was not what you saw. It was a short period of time after that. It was when the epic match between the Undertaker and myself at WrestleMania was over that the Oh my God moment took place. It was when the Undertaker, for the first time in his career, could not leave the ring on his own power. He was carried from that ring. Only one man walked out and it was me. Nine months later, the Undertaker is no more. The Oh My God Moment was at WrestleMania when the streak came to an end."
He said this after winning the "OMG Moment of the Year" for his tombstone on Undertaker at WrestleMania this year, which Taker kicked out of. Which is really funny to have an award be centered around Taker kicking out of his own finisher but Triple H being the guy to get the credit, as "HHH tombstones Undertaker" is what played on screen as the nominee.
Weird.
It's not all that surprising that a rematch is going to happen because, again, they left the door open to it last year and it's becoming increasingly difficult to find credible opponents for Undertaker at WrestleMania.
But this scares me.
I don't believe the powers that be within WWE want to end the streak, not now and maybe not ever. But if there was a guy on the roster with enough power, influence and ability to politically maneuver himself into a position to beat Taker at WrestleMania, it's Triple H.
And that would be disastrous.
If Trips is going to lose, what will he have to gain from it? After all, he will then be the guy who failed twice in consecutive years to end the streak. Shawn Michaels is also that guy but they crafted that story to make it the last match in one of the most legendary careers in the history of the business. And HBK delivered in the biggest way possible. Does Triple H want to follow in those footsteps and do the exact same storyline?
Somehow I doubt it. It wouldn't surprise me if he wanted to do it just so he could one-up Michaels but that would be crazy.
Really, I'm not sure what to think here. This could be the last we see of Undertaker, who is one year older and has that many more miles on his rapidly decomposing body. I just don't know if I want to see the streak end as he rides off into the sunset but if that's the case, Triple H is not the guy who should be the one to do it.

Keep the streak alive!
I don’t want to see Taker’s streak end, and REALLY don’t want to see HHH be the guy to do it. HHH doesn’t need that win and Undertaker deserves to keep the record.

Not looking forward to it
First off, I don’t think they’re going to end the streak. It took them 20 years to build, and I don’t think they’re not going to let it get to 20 years. 19 years is just as impressive as 20, realistically, but 20 is a nice, even number, and looks a lot better.
That said, I think I’m in the minority, but I thought the match they had at Wrestlemania was not very good. It was exciting because of a few false finishes, and a few spots here and there, but I thought it was pretty slow and boring overall. With everyone being a year older, especially the Undertaker, I’d imagine this second match will be weaker than the one last year. That doesn’t bode well, to me.

I don’t think Undertaker will retire for good before first fighting Cena at a future Wrestlemania. That seems like a no-brainer can’t-miss main event match. So I don’t think the streak will end before that eventual match.
But this is just another one of those problems that has arisen from the lack of main eventers in the company. Taker needs to fight a main event caliber opponent at each Wrestlemania, but WWE doesn’t really have many guys like that on the roster. Aside from Cena or HHH, which active roster member would be a worthy opponent for Taker?

I don't see Trips winning
Vince owes Taker big-time, and he might be the one guy in the locker room Trips would defer to.

I would think 'Taker has enough sway to get to make the call on the streak himself
The guy oughta (and I know that saying this about any aging wrestler is risky) have enough money that if he wanted to walk away he could walk away. He’s over enough that Vince would never totally cut him off, and he has enough juice that if he doesn’t want to break the streak to Trips, he could probably say no.
I do have to say that this “Taker only shows up once a year to keep the streak going” crap is pretty lame. I can get if he’s not gonna be full time, but there’s gotta be some sort of middle ground thing.
Writer (and a handsome one at that),
And the Valley Shook
That middle ground might injure Taker enough that he can't wrestle at Mania
They need him around just enough to build up to the match, but not enough to take him out of wrestling the match.
The Dead Man is held together with toothpicks and glue at this point.

I agree with the above poster…I think if at all possible, Taker holds out one more year so he can fight Cena in 2013. That’s the natural main event coming off Cena/Rock, and the one matchup that would create some quality doubt as to who would win.
As for this year, I would have gone UT/Punk. Punk is as hot as he’s going to get, and has no natural opponent at the moment (presuming someone like Jericho doesn’t return). Would have been an easy storyline to go with, too: UT wants one has shot at the WWE title, goes streak vs. title. Maybe have him as a surprise RR entrant/winner.
After he beats Punk (and he more or less has to win, because Cena/UT with the streak on the line is the next big money matchup), you can figure out any number of ways to get the belt off him fairly quickly (or giving him a very limited, non-traveling, schedule). The upside to this is you put over 3 people: 1) Punk is elevated by having a WM match with Taker at this stage, 2) Whoever beats him for the title, as long as you don’t pull a cheap MITB-type win, and 3) Cena for having the last match.
I'd be pretty scared with how they would handle taking the title off of him.
I’m sure it could be done in a way to elevate someone new, but I don’t have enough confidence in them actually pulling it off.

I think one thing they absolutely have to do in a Taker ‘Mania match is have the ref count Taker down for 3 after a huge finisher but have Taker’s foot on the rope at the same time. Announce the opponent won the match and play his music and the arena would go apeshit. Holy shit that would be insane. Then have a GM or whoever overturn the decision via replay and continue the match, and of course Taker eventually wins. I think my head would explode if Cena was announced as the winner over Taker, even if that victory just lasted for a few seconds.
Another tease they could have done, but never have, is have Taker win or defend the championship at ’Mania in a grueling match, only for the MITB guy to run down the aisle with his briefcase in hand looking to get a quick pin on an exhausted Taker. Imagine how much heel heat that guy would get on his way down to the ring?
Could Daniel Bryan be that guy this year? Ha, of course not.
More than likely this will be HHH's last match
as he is expected to take over the day to day operations of WWE after Wrestlemania. It will be career vs career and Taker will win. HHH will not be a full time wrestler ever again and he’s going out at Mania, which if anyone recalls, HHH was going to have his career ended at wrestlemania this year but they were smart enough to hold back on that. HHH cannot run the company and wrestle full time so this really is a non issue when you factor in the real life ramifications of this years wrestlemania. It is the final Wrestlemania with Vince running the show. The real changing of the guard.

May as well be HHH
Not only does the opponent need to be main event worthy, it has to be someone we can believe would actually beat the Undertaker. Miz? Del Rio? Punk? Henry? I only really see HHH and Cena as possible contenders (maybe Orton). As long as HHH doesn’t actually win, this will be a decent match.
With that logic..
Undertaker shouldn’t have ended Michaels’ career.. and Shawn shouldn’t have ended Flair’s.
And not to mention that this will be Undertaker v HHH 3 at Mania.. and why? Its not like its the rubber match. No one wants to see this again.. and what gimmick match will it be to help cover up the flaws? Personally, if Foley was in shape, it should be Foley v Taker & end Foley’s career that way. Just to get a pass to 20-0. I think Orton is the guy that should end his career… Maybe Punk.. but heel Punk. Not the guy we have today.
How many Mania matches are we going to have face v face? Are the heels even going to get any work or all of them going to be in the MITB.. oh wait.. they did away with that.

Speak for yourself
If they have half the match they had last year then I’ll enjoy it. Taker/HHH was the show last year, this year Rock/Cena and Punk/Jericho will be enough of the epic level encounters that HHH/Taker can fit nicely into the card. HHH/Taker is fine for a third main event match.
Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...
As long as it's not Kane or Mark Henry, I can live with it.
Besides, the last Undertaker/Triple H match was probably the best match of either guys career that didn’t feature Shawn Michaels in the mix. WWE has done such an awful job at giving heat to anybody in the past decade that their only options for credible streak opponents are Triple H, John Cena, Randy Orton, or a returning Brock Lesnar.
It’s their own damn fault they’re in this mess, though. I have no sympathy for WWE’s lack of Streak options.
I hope it's Taker v. Kane v. Henry in a triple threat match
Just for the fanpost that will follow!

Wade Barrett
I think he’d be a perfect opponent for ‘Taker, if it was done right (this is the WWE we’re talking about here)
Push him to the upper mid card, or better yet, into the title picture. The perfect scenario in my head is him in a triple threat match with Henry and whoever, he has the win sealed but walks out because he’s “too good” for that or something along those lines, and wants to be the one to break the streak. If they push him right he could definitely come off as a decent challenge to Taker.
He can push his “intelligent fighter” thing further, make it so he can feasibly beat the Dead Man at his own game, out psyche him. Then have him fight Taker to the absolute limit at Wrestlemania. Taker keeps his streak, Barrett gets elevated, they should be able to have a pretty decent match, everyone wins.
Wishful thinking
While I don’t care about yet another Triple-H/Taker match at Mania, if it does happen i’m praying the streak finally comes to an end. It’s gotten out of hand and made things way too predictable and lame, the last time the streak was in real trouble was against Batista since then it’s been incredibly predictable that Taker would walk away the winner and it’s past tired time to call it a wrap imo.
