The speculation over who would be the next guy to contest the streak at WrestleMania can come to an end. Well, plans change, of course, but that's fairly rare for bigger plans that the big dogs are on board with.
Triple H will rematch Undertaker at WrestleMania 28 next year on April 1, 2012 in Miami.
The seeds were planted last year when they did the spot where "The Game" told "The Deadman" he would see him again next year but that was forgotten when Taker left and all the focus has been on whether or not he's the mystery return man on Jan. 2.
But after listening to Triple H's promo last night on Raw, it became clear a rematch is what we're headed for. Here's the text of what he said:
"First of all, the Oh My God Moment was not what you saw. It was a short period of time after that. It was when the epic match between the Undertaker and myself at WrestleMania was over that the Oh my God moment took place. It was when the Undertaker, for the first time in his career, could not leave the ring on his own power. He was carried from that ring. Only one man walked out and it was me. Nine months later, the Undertaker is no more. The Oh My God Moment was at WrestleMania when the streak came to an end."
He said this after winning the "OMG Moment of the Year" for his tombstone on Undertaker at WrestleMania this year, which Taker kicked out of. Which is really funny to have an award be centered around Taker kicking out of his own finisher but Triple H being the guy to get the credit, as "HHH tombstones Undertaker" is what played on screen as the nominee.
Weird.
It's not all that surprising that a rematch is going to happen because, again, they left the door open to it last year and it's becoming increasingly difficult to find credible opponents for Undertaker at WrestleMania.
But this scares me.
I don't believe the powers that be within WWE want to end the streak, not now and maybe not ever. But if there was a guy on the roster with enough power, influence and ability to politically maneuver himself into a position to beat Taker at WrestleMania, it's Triple H.
And that would be disastrous.
If Trips is going to lose, what will he have to gain from it? After all, he will then be the guy who failed twice in consecutive years to end the streak. Shawn Michaels is also that guy but they crafted that story to make it the last match in one of the most legendary careers in the history of the business. And HBK delivered in the biggest way possible. Does Triple H want to follow in those footsteps and do the exact same storyline?
Somehow I doubt it. It wouldn't surprise me if he wanted to do it just so he could one-up Michaels but that would be crazy.
Really, I'm not sure what to think here. This could be the last we see of Undertaker, who is one year older and has that many more miles on his rapidly decomposing body. I just don't know if I want to see the streak end as he rides off into the sunset but if that's the case, Triple H is not the guy who should be the one to do it.
