Cageside Fave Five: Wrestling entrance theme songs
Welcome to a new column here at Cageside that was inspired by KING BOOKAH himself ...
FAVE FIVE!
I'm not going to lie to you. This is just a gussied up top five whatever but who doesn't like lists? Communists, that's who. And puppy punchers. I don't want to be associated with either.
We kick off Fave Five with quite a topic ... wrestler's theme songs. I don't know who it was but whoever thought, "Hey, we should play a song -- the same song -- whenever a wrestler comes out!" deserves a free drink or two. That guy knew what was up.
I had to make a rule up for this one, though. The song itself had to be essentially only a wrestler's theme song. Yeah, "Walk" by Pantera is probably the most bad ass song ever but it would be so even if it was Rob Van Dam's theme. Same for stuff like CM Punk's old Killswitch Engage song which you can also find on one of the band's CDs. We're looking for great wrestling theme songs, not just songs that wrestlers walk out to.
Honorable mentions go to Demolition, The Ultimate Warrior, and the newest theme on the list, Cody Rhodes. Aside from the vocals, it almost sounds like a Nine Inch Nails song and that's alright by me.
Honorable mentions
5. Harlem Heat - Rap Sheet
I was really disappointed to learn that the song isn't called "Harlem Heat Shuffle." Also, if anyone -- and this offer is completely serious -- does a video of you freestyling over this song, I will send you a copy of the new "Stone Cold" Steve Austin set. If multiple people do it, I'll judge a winner based on these criteria: flow, creativity, and swagger.
Again, I am 100% serious.
4. D-Generation X - Break It Down
So I'm like 14-years old and smack in the middle of my "screw you, Mom, I hate you!" phase and was all about Rage Against the Machine. When DX formed and dropped this song on everybody, it was the first wrestling theme I could legitimately listen to outside of a wrestling arena.
My friend said that he would listen to it to amp himself up before hitting the club. "The ladies didn't know what hit them," he told me.
3. Bret Hart - Hart Beat
I hate -- HATE -- that they redid this theme when Hart came back recently. It's like, why? Why bother messing with a song that -- even though recorded nearly 20 years ago -- still holds up?
I'm not sure but I do know that this song is jamhammer.
2. "Macho Man" Randy Savage - Pomp and Circumstance
I had to make a small exception to the rule I put in place for this absolute classic. I actually have this plan: after I get married, at the reception where my bride and I are introduced as husband and wife for the first time, this song plays. I strut in, spinning my finger in the air while the misses stands there smiling and politely clapping, looking like a class act.
Now I just need to find a woman that will agree to that.
1. "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase - The Million Dollar Theme
EVERYBODY HAS A PRICE! Hands down, this theme has got to be the best. It perfectly captures the character while also being an absolute jam. If I won the lottery, I would set this song as the alarm on my phone.
What do you think, Cagesiders? What's on your "Fave Five"?

No nWo theme anywhere?
Holy shit, you failed on this one Sergio. Move up DX and Booker, dump Hart and put nWo at 5. I’m good with everything else. Especially DiBiase at number one. Putting “The Million Dollar Man” at the top of any list is an automatic win in my book.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

I always thought
SCSA’s theme when it was redone by Disturbed was awesome. As much as I hate HHH, I love the “The Game” by Motorhead
my fav is Los Guerreros..
Some others in no order are original NWO, Goldberg, the 1st DX, Orton’s 1st..
It took some time for CM Punks to grow on me.. but I love the very beginning of Living Color.
Edge’s is a great one.. but those 2 are actual songs. I think Rey’s 1st WWe one was good.. and Benoit had a tough one in WWe as well. I like the intense music.. makes you think the person is a no bullshit guy. Henry’s in the stuff right now.. but I like Epico’s & DiBiase. Cody’s 1st was good & all the new versions as tough too.
I think the music has to set the tone for the wrestler’s personality. I liked Alicia Fox’ last one as well.

Undertaker’s theme is my all time favorite. It has so much psychology involved with it bc of his aura that it hits harder than anything on here. In terms of badassery, The Game.

NWO theme. The guitar is just so good.
Stone cold if only for the smashed glass. (when you heard that you knew shit was about to go wild)
Jericho’s for the countdown.
The Rock (know your role) it’s just ridiculous.
The Undertaker – as mentioned above, psychology wise it’s awesome. Plus when when I was 16 me and a bunch of friends did a load of drugs and played hide and seek in my friends house with the undertaker theme playing on repeat for hours. It was just… weird.
That hide and seek story rules.

5. The Oddities ICP theme. First I listened to outside of wrestling.
4. Mankind. Car wreck fits his style.
3. DDP. Self high 5!
2. Nation of Domination. Was just awesome.
1. Its time! It’s time. Its Vader time! Hands down 1st for me.

I can't really put anything in order
“Non-Real” Songs
DX Theme
Ministry Undertaker Theme
Golddust Theme
nWo Theme
“Real” Songs
CM Punk: “This Fire Burns”
HHH: “The Game”
Randy Orton: “Voices”
Wade Barrett: “End of Days”
I’m not sure which I like better, songs that are more or less just music, or songs that have lyrics. When I started watching wrestling again like two years ago, I didn’t like that entrance themes had lyrics- most of the themes back from when I was a kid in the mid-to-late ‘90s were just music with little or no lyrics. They’ve grown on me, though.

Forgot about Road Dogg's schtick.
Loved that intro. The opening guitar riff followed by, “Oh, you didn’t know?”, was genius. Crowd got hot every time.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.
Is Road Dogg still involved with the WWE in whatever agent capacity I heard they hired him in a few months ago, anyone know?

That right there is the issue with the crowds today. WWe competitors don’t do anything for the fans to yell & get into. Where are the catch phrases.
RKO… Cena Sucks.. lets go Cena.. umm… that’s about it. Each guy in the old days had their own spiel and that’s what got people going. Something that helps the crowd chant.

Only one choice for #1
5. “Man Called Sting” – Sting
4. “Unstable” – Ultimate Warrior
3. Four Horsemen last theme
2. “Badstreet U.S.A.” – The Fabulous Freebirds
1. “Common Man Boogie” – “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes
Awesome topic
1) “Badstreet, U.S.A.” – I think if I look hard enough, I actually have this on my MP3 player.
2) “Common Man Boogie” – AMERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN. . .deep breath. . .DREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM!!
3) “Latino Heat” – Just fit Eddy Guerrero amazingly well
4) “Break The Walls Down” – Just hearing the. . .whatever sound that was that represented the countdown got the crowd going
5) “Everybody’s Got A Price” – Awesome for the character, and just a great song.
Man, there’s damn near too many to try to limit this to just five.

I always loved the Miz’s theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf1UVD5xTjI&feature=related
Don’t know why, just thought it went will with his character and I liked the song anyways
Glad to see Million Dollar Man at #1.
I think “No Chance In Hell” was pretty good, though not as good as many of the ones already mentioned.
I think it is kind of interesting that HBK’s song lasted for 20 years or so but doesn’t really measure up to the best of the best.
I nominate Steven Regal’s “He’s A Man…” as a choice for whenever the Worst Songs list comes up.
Here's a story...
About how such an utter loser and wrestling mark I am.
I think this was my junior year of high school and I’m in class and one of my buddies in there is also a wrestling fan. We’re cutting up and eventually the teacher pulls us out into the hallway to give us a talking to.
She basically says that we need to keep it down and stop horsing around so much but she knows we’re bright kids so we’ll give us one chance.
We both immediately bust out with, “One chance! That’s what we got!”
Egads…

I'm a little late to the party
but two of my favorites
Maslow's theory of higher needs does not apply to Patrick Willis. He only has two needs: tackling people and finding people to tackle.
I could literally listen to Ahmed Johnsons theme for hours

Two Things
One, I graduated on Friday night and I couldn’t help but point out to everyone that the music playing was actually the Macho Man’s walk in music. Not everyone found it amusing, but whatever. Also, no love for Shane O’Mac’s theme? I thought that was one of the best ever.
My Fave Five
5. Mark Henry
4. Million Dollar Man
3. Mr. Perfect
2. C.M. Punk (the Killswitch Engage version…I’m a big KSE fan)
1. Lita (the Boyhitscar version)
Honorable mentions: Ric Flair, nWo, MsChif, Winter (it’s so bad, it’s terribad…but so cheesy and funny), Cherry, Roddy Piper, HonkyTonk Man…
