On this date in WCW history: Ricky Steamboat and Shane Douglas defeat Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes at 'Clash of Champions'
On November 18, 1992, Ricky Steamboat and Shane Douglas defeated Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes to win the NWA and WCW World Tag Team Titles at Clash of the Champions XXI.
This was a memorable bout for me and not just because you had four guys who could work, but you also had the stellar announce team of Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura.
Crowd was inexplicably comatose, especially for the Macon Coliseum, but it did little to detract from Windham's heel turn, where he unveiled the "Implant DDT."
Any other Cagesiders out there notice how stiff those slaps were at the end? Ouch!

How exactly was Windham the heel here?
For my money, Windham/Rhodes is the great forgotten tag team of the 80s/90s. Their title win again Terry Gordy and Steve Williams might be my favorite match ever. Interestingly, the seeds for this turn were sown in the aftermath of that victory, when Windham very subtly seemed to take credit for the win (despite Rhodes scoring the pin) in a post-match interview.
I always preferred Windham as a heel, but the funny thing about this turn was that I think a good portion of the audience agreed with Barry’s motivation. Not only did Rhodes refuse to pin Steamboat when he gets injured, but he subsequently PULLS WINDHAM OFF of Steamboat when he tries to make a pin a few minutes later. When Windham yells at Dustin, RHODES PURPOSEFULLY HITS HIS OWN PARTNER, leading to Windham getting pinned and costing the team the title.
So yeah, I think Windham was justified in beating the crap out of Rhodes afterwards. Listen to the crowd…a good portion of them side with the “heel,” too.
