On this date in WWF history: Big Show wins his first WWE Championship at Survivor Series
And he did it with a "championship chokeslam" according to good ole JR.
On November 14, 1999, The Big Show won his first-ever WWF Championship by pinning Triple H, ironically, in a Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series.
Joining them was none other than The Rock.
Show was a late replacement for an injured Stone Cold Steve Austin and would hold the belt until after the new year, giving it back to "The Game" (surprise) before his eventual heel turn following the Royal Rumble.

How about it Cagesiders, were you happy for The Big Show? Or bummed that you didn't have Stone Cold?

I love how X-Pac and Road Dogg double-team the injured Rock. Because, clearly, Mr Ass can be trusted to take care of the Big Show.

So Disappointed...
All-in-all I wasn’t completely heartbroken by how this all went down, but at the time I was so disappointed that the long-awaited triple threat between Austin, Rock and Triple H didn’t go down as planned.
I think that was THE match that people wanted to see at the time to determine who was the real king of the mountain in the WWF at the time. It’s a shame that Vinny pulled the bait and switch promoting the match right up until the whole hit and run angle at the end.
That’s not just on Vince. Austin wanted to wait it out and see if he could work through his injury. He did not want to get off the road at a point when he was the hottest star in wrestling. So Vince waited it out instead of pulling Austin immediately, Vince was simply giving his top draw the chance to make the best decision he could in a really tough situation. Austin’s fears of losing his spot was right on. Rock took the reigns and the WWF didn’t miss a beat.
Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...
