WWE Network: Monday Night Wars show announced

Photo

Now this is a show a whole gang of fans can get behind.

WWE is continuing its roll out of shows for the its brand spankin' new Network that will debut next year, reportedly sometime around WrestleMania 28 in April.

On top of a retrospective documentary about WrestleMania, a Diva's show and a Legends based reality show, WWE is bringing the good with a series on the most successful time in pro wrestling, the Monday Night Wars.

From WWE.com:

WWE Network launches in 2012, but we're already taking names for our new slate of shows, including a controversial look back at the Monday Night War. Waged between WWE and WCW during the 90's, this battle for TV dominance unfolded live each week, giving rise to some of the most iconic Superstars and storylines of our time. And you get to relive it in one action-packed television season.

Wrestling fans who are currently between the age of 25 and 40 all surely have fond memories of the late 90s thanks to the biggest wrestling boom in history. It was, of course, driven by the massive popularity spread between WCW and WWE.

Truth be told, I usually watched the former and switched to the latter during commercials. Busted!

Names in consideration for the show include the following, which you can vote for by clicking here:

  • Battleground: Raw vs. Nitro
  • Battleground: The Monday Night Wars
  • The Monday Night War
  • WWE Raw vs. WCW Nitro
  • Monday Night Warfare

Personally, I don't see any choice other than "The Monday Night War," seeing as that's what it's been known as for over a decade now. Still, share your thoughts on what you think the name should be and even what your favorite memory from the late 90s was when WCW and WWE were going at it on Monday nights.

Hopefully this all pans out. I wouldn’t mind having this channel. Any word whether it will be via subscription or what?

They still haven't cut any distribution deals.

I’m still curious to see how they work this whole thing out.

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

Here here.

I’d like them to air In Your House PPVs and other rarities that you can only find on VHS nowadays. God knows they won’t do that, but still. One can hope.

Comcast has some free WWE stuff OnDemand right now.

One of them is a 70 minute Monday Night War mashup. It shows the best from both Raw and Nitro one night, and it was pretty amazing. Even if the episodes themselves were just ok, it took me back to being 11 years old again. I totally forgot Dude Love was a heel when he was Vince’s attempt at a corporate champion. I also totally forgot Owen Hart was in the Nation of Domination. Not really sure why he was in it, seeing as he was both white and Canadian, but whatevs.

He was 'anti-establishment'

which was the cover reason for the group existing, not just a Black Panther spinoff… supposedly. It did seem odd though, heh.

Now, "wait 'till next year" looks like "Watch out for next year!" GO LEAFS GO!
