PrintOkay, from a historical perspective, one would tend to lean towards Chris Jericho's pro wrestling debut on Oct. 2, 1990, but since I'm the captain of this ship, I have to take advantage of a terrific rivalry pitting two of the best workers of all time against one another back in 1989.
Plus, I'm a mark for any match that has Lanny Poffo acting like a ringside "Genius."
Bret Hart, in the twilight of his run in "The Hart Foundation" with tag-team partner Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, was playing face to fellow second-generation wrestler Curt Hennig, who was working as a heel under the "Mr. Perfect" gimmick.
Their rivalry would eventually culminate in one of the greatest Intercontinental championship matches of all time at SummerSlam 1991.

A rarely seen match between Hart and Hennig from the Maple Leaf Gardens on April 23, 1989, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

When Hennig chopped Hart at one point, I was surprised that the crowd didn’t “whoooo!” Does anyone know when that tradition began?
Lord Al Hays. He was terrible until he started playing the heel a little bit toward the end of his run as an a WWF announcer.
To answer your question, this is better in every way than today’s shorter tv matches.
