Scott Hall to appear on ESPN's 'E:60' on October 19

Hall_medium

In another look into what continues to be a life headed towards an expected end, Scott Hall will appear in a story on ESPN about his life entitled "The Wrestler."

The title is taken, of course, from the infamous movie starring Mickey Rourke about a wrestler who was once on top of the world and is now a broken shell of a man trying to pick up the pieces of his life. Watching this play out in real life with Scott Hall is saddening and maddening all at the same time.

Eric Bischoff appears in the piece and likely many of Hall's family and friends will appear, as well. Wrestling fans have often debated why Vince McMahon and the friends of these performers can't save him when they know for a fact he's on a dark path.

After watching the 1:24 preview of this ESPN story you may have a clearer picture as to why that is so.

I feel nothing but sadness; it's as if Hall has already died and the funeral has yet to occur. Just look at his face -- that is not the "Bad Guy" I remember and loved as a child. Imagine what his family feels. I'm blown away.

The entire piece airs October 19 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. Preview video after the jump.

Wow.

I thought it might just be him goofing off .. But that really was sad to watch. I’ll have to check out the show, but that was pretty hard to watch right there.

Wow!

I was a huge fan of Hall when he was Razor Ramon in the WWE, and became a bigger fan during his nWo days. It is definitely sad to see what he has become in recent years.

agree

Kevin Nash said pretty much the same thing. He said Hall has been dealing with demons that were around before he ever stepped foot in a ring. Hopefully he can find some kind of help.

I remember seeing that footage of that event

there was a lot more to the clip I watched then what is shown in the video above, but it was just sad to see. The fact that a promoter would allow him to go out and perform like that just boggles my mind.

So now every story like this is called "The Wrestler."

I don’t buy the comparison. I never got the impression that Randy The Ram was driven by desperation or self-destructive tendencies. He kept busting himself up night after night because of his passion for wrestling and his desire to entertain. That’s a distinction that keeps getting lost when the story of every down-on-his-luck pill-popper becomes “The Wrestler.”

I remember a scene or two of him partying with blow

Thanks to Geno or Jesse or whomever worked on the edits for this post

I posted this in a bit of a rush I felt it needed to get up asap. There were several botches so thanks for cleaning it up. I watched the video again a few times just now and I’m still speechless. Hall says ‘whats left after the people stop chanting your name.’ Your wife and kids are left Scott and they are more important than any pop in any arena on this planet.

No problem, thanks for writing it, barely any edits.

Definitely one of the saddest videos I’ve seen and you’re right, to hear him say that it’s like … who is still chanting, you know? Those 20 people were worth it?

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

That's something I don't get

Why do you cheer for him, seeing him in that condition? I mean, yeah, you pay for your ticket, and Scott Hall is probably the marquee attraction, and the average person probably doesn’t know that he’s drinking/drugging himself to death, but when the guy can’t even walk…And, again, I’m sure whatever wrestling promotion that was paid him decently and as such, want to get their money’s worth, but what kind of person gives the green-light to have that show go on with him in it, where he can’t walk, where he can’t even lift his arms, where he’s not coherent at all?

I'm sure they didn't know but they certainly exploited his condition

There really is no way they could’ve known he was going to be in that condition but where this wrestling promotion showed it’s true colors is allowing Hall to come out in front of the crowd in that condition. When he arrived in that state you simply tell him to leave or you get him a doctor. You don’t send him out there and have several guys basically carry him to the damn ring. Who are these people that run these shows?

Scott Hall is my fav wreslter of all time

I can’t even watch the video after reading the comments. It breaks my heart to see his life run parallel to Jake Roberts. My heart believes he’ll get it together, my brain says otherwise.

by Adult Nathaniel on Oct 13, 2011 10:26 PM EDT reply actions

You know I think two things crush him

1. That he was such an ass to hiswife and kids.
2. That he left WWF and went to WCW. He would’ve been WWF champion. Vince had such a hard on for him and working for Vince, people would’ve noticed his decline. In WCW people saw but said nothing and he was not special after being in the nWo. I always thought that making Hall and Nash a tag team was smart but not as a regular tag team. They should’ve been pushed as singles stars and then put in tag team matches for big ppv’s or shows. The Outsiders were great but after two years of tagging they weren’t major singles stars anymore. I think Hall feels he would’ve been bigger in the WWF. I mean seriously, can you think any other guy besides Austin, fitting better into the WWF attitude era?

You’re totally right. He was perfect for it. The man was incredible on the stick and could put on a hell of a match. I was always impressed that he could wrestle as the big man or the small guy.

Man, imagining him during the attitude era… That would have been amazing to watch.

I thought I was prepared. Holy crap, it's way bad.

Reminds me of Gary Hart talking about Geno Hernandez, how he tried to fight his demons off, but they just carried him away in the end. Wow, that is bad.

I will definately watch this show. I hope they show mcmahon’s take on everything that happened. Out of that whole group of Shawn Michaels, Hunter Herst Hemsley, Kevin Nash, Shawn Waltman, Chyna, and Kevin Nash most did fall apart. I think HHH was the only one that didn’t. I hope they show some of these former friends perceptions of what happened and hope they also talk about how the WWE is supposed to provide professional help for their former talent. I wonder if they are trying to get out of it or if Hall is refusing it. Also, I hope they touch on why HHH hasn’t done more since he has so much pull in WWE and also what their relationships were when they were competing against each other with WWF vs. WCW

I want to say he's already done the WWE rehab

But I’m not positive. Not sure rehab would help much now anyway.

Hall has been to WWE sponsored rehab at least twice. Once on HHH’s dime prior to the wellness policy offer for all former talent.

Stephanie McMahon said in an ESPN article that they’ve spent more on Scott Hall’s rehab attempts than anyone else the WWE has helped, “in the six figures” range. She loses points for saying that today’s generation of wrestlers would rather play with their iPads and gaming devices than go out and party.
