On this date in WCW history: Billy Kidman joins Raven's Flock
On Oct. 13, 1997, Billy Kidman walks into the stands looking like he just escaped from under the robe of the Ghost of Christmas Present.
His loyalty was no longer to that of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), it was to Raven, as he was now an official member of Raven's Flock.
"What kind of mind control does this man (Raven) have over Perry Saturn, Billy Kidman, Stevie Richards? Almost an hypnotic effect."
Agreed. One look at this lame-duck angle and the mind immediately tunes out.

Did you even watch wrestling during this time?
Or are you just trolling for comments?
Ravens Flock was a solid stable and it accomplished its goal – to get Raven over. Hell, it got Saturn over and arguably Kidman and Kanyon as well. The members were severely limited on the mic and probably wouldnt do anything of note without the exposure of being aligned with Raven, who was one of the top heels in WCW during that time. Sure the angle couldnt compare to the ECW version, but in an overcrowded (dis)organization like WCW, the Flock gave a group of would-be jobbers something to do. It wasn’t perfect, but I liked it!
I don't get it
Why am I not allowed to dislike this angle?

you are, thats not what I meant...
It just seems like a lot of these “history” posts have antagonistic undertones. Why not focus on the positives of the angle instead of the negatives? God knows there are enough “bad” angles to choose from…far worse than Raven’s Flock.
Most of these posts are positive
But when I get to an angle that stinks, I’m going to say as much. That’s the whole reason I do this, I love wrestling, the good and the bad. And this is coming from a guy that loved the Right to Censor (RTC) angle so take that for what it’s worth. “I say to you, no more!”

It just doesnt seem like you're giving the group it's full due
… The angle was instrumental in pushing Benoit over the edge(push wise, maybe wrong choice of words) and the DDP feud relied heavily on the Flock’s interference. What else would Riggs, Van Hammer, Sick Boy, Reece etc have done without it??
ha
Long before we had vickie guerrero screeching, we had ivory, who somehow managed to make herself look totally un-bangable in that RTC get-up

Well
I guess that’s what the comments section is for. So you can agree — or tell me to go pound salt. I just thought it was a cheap play on the rise of the goth scene and I didn’t like the drug addict undertones with Kidman.

I have to agree with you
As individuals I really wasn’t watching these guys but as a group I did.

You are so right.
This was obviously a take on Raven’s successful angles in ECW. The attempt was to replicate the same effects including having Raven as a top heel. He was that in ECW. Having so-called jobbers around him only made more the heel, values, and gain heat.

Misuse of the phrase "lame-duck" angle
I can understand not liking certain aspects of the angle or some of the wrestlers involved, but the phrase “lame-duck angle” does not really apply when it got multiple wrestlers over with the audience. The group ended up getting Raven, Perry Saturn, Billy Kidman, and Chris Kanyon over, getting Chris Benoit over even more, keeping DDP over during the time period between the nWo feud and his World Title push, and I would say the U.S. title win over Raven was a key in rocketing Goldberg to the stratosphere (he was already on his way, but that being his first title victory was a major shot of fuel to the rocket).
You didn’t like the angle, it’s cool. You didn’t like some of the talent involved, that’s cool too. But to describe this with the phrase “lame-duck”, is just plain incorrect.

It ain't lame duck if the gimmick runs a decade.
Raven and every company used a form of the Nest, Flock, Gathering, and Serotonin. Nothing lame duck about it in ECW and WCW, especially.
