Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament: Champion Alistair Overeem Expected to Face Fabricio Werdum

Reemvswerdum_medium

Mike Chiapetta confirms via Twitter and MMA Fighting.  The Strikeforce Heavyweight tournament has taken shape, here's to hoping it goes according to plan.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio Silva

Andrei Arlovski vs. Sergei Kharitonov

Brett Rogers vs. Josh Barnett

Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum

I'm curious, is Overeem's expected participation in the tournament caused by the lack of quality fighters at heavyweight, or Strikeforce wanting to make sure Overeem fights in Strikeforce throughout 2011? Would it be easier for them if Werdum defeats Overeem? Yeah, but Werdum isn't nearly as marketable as "The Reem". Regardless, Strikeforce appears committed to making some waves with their heavyweight division in 2011.

If

I could tell you that the tournament was going to go as planned I’d go pick out Friday’s winning Lottery numbers right now but I can’t predict what’s gonna happen.

I’ll just say I hope it goes as planned and I’ll enjoy every minute of it.

Unlike some folks who claim to be huge fans of the sport yet are rooting for this Grand Prix to be a epic collapse.

I have no use for fakes like that.

I hope it goes as planned as well

But we’re dealing with Fedor and M1 here. And Overeem being available when he wants to be. And Barnett who doesn’t seem to be that serious about getting licensed again.

Plus we all know how much it’s fun to say “I told you so”.
