Casual Corner: Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg, Matt Mitrione Rips Chael Sonnen, GSP vs. Anderson Silva in 2011?
It's Monday again my friends, and Casual Corner returns for it's second edition here on Cageside Seats. We're reaching out to the often bashed "casual fans", and letting you all know that we here at Cageside are FOR you, when other are against you (or blame you for making Brock Lesnar the biggest star in the sport). Today, we take a look at the forthcoming Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg card taking place this Saturday night on Showtime. We also have a classic quote from Matt Mitrione, who blitzed Tim Hague at this past weekend's UFC Fight for the Troops 2 event. To finish, we check out Dana White's video blog, where he discusses the possibility of a Georges St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva superfight.
January 29th, live at 10 PM ET/PT on Showtime:
Nick Diaz vs. Evangelista Santos (Strikeforce Welterweight Title Fight)
Ronaldo Souza vs. Robbie Lawler (Strikeforce Middleweight Title Fight)
Stockton bad boy Nick Diaz defends his welterweight strap against Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos, in what is likely to be an exciting, memorable bout. Diaz's multitude of punches versus Cyborg's determined, brawling style is nearly a guarantee that we'll see some serious leather traded in the main event Saturday night.
Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza will defend his middleweight title against the heavy handed Robbie Lawler, in fight that many fans are sleeping on. Jacare put on an amazing performance against Tim Kennedy in August of last year, where he showed of crisp boxing and savvy footwork against Kennedy, who believed his striking would lead him to victory against the Brazilian. Lawler is coming off a quick knock out over Matt Lindland, but is his power enough to dethrone Jacare? We shall see.
Sports legend Herschel Walker continues his journey in the sport of MMA. Walker, at age 47, made his professional debut, and showed that he is one of the most athletic, capable fighters in the sport today even at his age. He'll take on Scott Carson, an unknown fighter that is on Walker's level, who should be able to push Walker and test how far his skills have come.
To begin the show, Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt, Roger Gracie looks to get his fourth win of his professional career against Trevor Prangley, who will be the biggest test of his young career. Overall, the event is certainly worth watching, with Walker and two title fights, this is a great non-pay-per-view event that should deliver a great night of action.
Matt Mitrione Rips Chael Sonnen:
Mike Tyson's mansion in Ohio is for sale, and my buddy say's "hey Meat you should take your fight of the night money and put a down payment on Tyson's place." and I said "look buddy if I wanted to do a real estate deal with a roided up, convicted felon, I'd call Chael Sonnen."
This quote is from Mitrione on "The Mitrione Minute" a segment he does for Ariel Helwani's MMA Hour at MMAFighting. If you didn't get a chuckle out of that one, something is wrong with you.
GSP vs. Anderson Silva in 2011?:
At 1:58 Dana White is asked when we could see the super fight between Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva. His answer was straightforward and promising for anyone who has been hoping to see two of MMA's pound for pound best fighters meet each other in the cage. White said that if Silva defeats Vitor Belfort at UFC 126, and GSP beats Jake Shields at UFC 129 in Toronto, the next logical move would be for GSP to move up to middleweight, stay there, and face Anderson Silva. GSP has said that if he was to move up to middleweight, he'd want the time to put on more muscle, and move up properly, but we could see this fight happen before the end of the year.
Who wins that fight?

GSP beats Silva if that fight ever happens.
Provided he has the time he’s asked for to bulk up properly. Like it or not, GSP’s technical striking is better than anyone Silva has faced in the UFC (except the upcoming Vitor Belfort) and GSP has the wrestling to take Silva down and the Jits to avoid what happened to Chael.
Or maybe not. Either way, THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.
ET Son- formerly known as emoney. Effing hax.
Always will watch Nick Diaz fight. I like his combinations and his personality which many mma fans don't like.
Bring on Mayhem. Don’t be scared homie.
On february 5th 2011 at UFC 126 Jon "Bones" Jones will show the world that their was no need for the MMA community to hype this man because this guy is a beast with many skills and i personally will feel Ryan "Darth" Bader's pain after this fight. SB Nation's public enemy #1.

Cyborg is gonna kick some ass
Cyborg has been training extremely hard for this fight with his team at The Arena MMA in San Diego. He can’t be stopped. Strikeforce featured his pre-fight video on their site yesterday. Gives you a good idea as to how he plans to whoop up on Diaz. Can’t wait!
Thanks for posting! If anyone from Arena wants an interview before the fight this weekend, just check out the email next to my name at the bottom of this page, I’d be glad to talk to the team. People are sleeping on Cyborg here, I wouldn’t be entirely shocked if he waded through Diaz’s punches and managed to land some serious bombs. He looks damn good at welterweight.
