Post-UFC 125 Rumors: Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields, Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida on Tap for UFC 129 in Toronto
With UFC 125: Resolution in the books, as usual, we've got a lot of stories coming out of the event. MMA Fighting has world of Couture vs. Machida:
Couture and Lyoto Machida have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 129 on April 30 in Toronto, MMA Fighting has learned from sources close to the fight. Couture also confirmed the fight when asked by MMA Fighting at UFC 125 on Saturday night.
The event will be the UFC's first in Toronto and will be held at the Rogers Centre, home of the Toronto Blue Jays.
So, it appears that "The Natural" will get his big fight he was angling for, and will NOT be retiring yet. Couture has some filming schedules he has to get ironed out before this can be set in stone...but money talks, Couture is going to make the time one way or another. This is a compelling fight to me, Couture is a master gameplanner, and Machida is still one of the hardest fighters to figure out.
Multiple sources are saying that the headliner for this event will likely be Georges St. Pierre defending his welterweight title against Jake Shields, which was expected, but good to hear none the less. UFC 129 is shaping up to be yet another mega event in Canada.

Thanks for the info.
The event should do well just on the two matches that have been announced.

Hell, they could put nothing but local guys on the whole card, then have GSP headline and they’d sell out…not good for PPV sales, but the Canadians are nuts for MMA, I met some when I was in Minneapolis when GSP fought Fitch…they just love it.

Couture should dust off the gameplan he used against Chuck in fight 1.
Rampage showed you can make Machida uncomfortable if you refuse to let him set range, and he can be controlled in the clinch. The problem’s going to be that Randy doesn’t have Rampage’s punching power to keep Machida from setting.

!["It's an interesting match-up. Both guys have great wrestling backgrounds, and I know from my own experience that my toughest fights were against guys with good wrestling backgrounds. If [Velasquez] can stay away and not end up underneath Brock early, not take any serious damage there, the longer it goes the better it is for Cain. He's one of those guys at that weight class who has an unlimited gas tank. He's not going to get tired. Brock is a huge athlete. Every time he's out there we see something else. In the [Shane] Carwin fight he took a beating and still came back and found a way to win. I think that was important for him. Hopefully he got a bunch of big guys to come in so he could practice being in that worst-case scenario, which is having a guy like Brock sitting on you and hitting you in the head and ramming you into the fence," Couture said. "Those are the things that a guy that size can really do to you. I think if [Velasquez has] prepared himself for that worst-case scenario, and has prepared himself to survive there, he'll be able to do that in the fight."
