Cageside Quote: Jim Ross Weighs in on Brock Lesnar Taking Part in The Ultimate Fighter
Via Jim Ross' most recent blog:
Really surprised to read of the great 'get' of Brock Lesnar and his next opponent Junior Dos Santos as the next coaches for the UFC's TUF series. This will not only build to a mega fight w/ the two heavyweights but will also afford Brock the opportunity to promote his upcoming biography and his clothing line.
Some ask what motivated Lesnar to commit to several weeks of taping the program away from Minnesota and living in Las Vegas for approximately 6 weeks. The answer is marketing opportunities, building a PPV, and helping the company that the former WWE Champion works for to continue to build their brand. Bottom line....it's a win/win for all involved.
Again, a great 'get' for Dana White and company. But I'm still surprised.
Good ole' JR isn't the only one still surprised.

I expect lesnar to lose to JDS and then be offered a fight with Nelson.
I would say he would turn it down and retire knowing he will never get another chance at the title.
On february 5th 2011 at UFC 126 Jon "Bones" Jones will show the world that their was no need for the MMA community to hype this man because this guy is a beast with many skills and i personally will feel Ryan "Darth" Bader's pain after this fight. SB Nation's public enemy #1.

I'm really surprised people think a JDS win is a sure thing
The best Wrestler he’s faced is Nelson and he’s not exactly a technician or dynamic takedown fighter. Don’t be surprised fi Lesnar gets him down and rapes him on the ground. JDS is a great striker, but it’s not like he’s even Frank Mir-like on the ground and we all saw what happened in the second Mir fight.
Think i saw Lesnar +130 and JDS -150. Vegas odds. Anything can happen in a MMA fight.
I think Carwin (even though he lost) and Velasquez have shown they way to beat Brock. Alot of striking to the face and Lesnar turtles up. I agree Lesnar could get him down and pin him against the cage and win that way but until Lesnar can show me he can take more than one or two strike’s to the face i’ll go with the striker. Plus i know we have not seen it that much but JDS is a bbjj right?

Dos Santos is a Brown Belt at most
He was a purple belt going into his fight with Werdum if I recall correctly. And BJJ plays into the danger of getting too comfortable on your back. Cain getting back up is more attributable to his wrestling imo.
JDS is going to fight off his back the entire night.
If he can win there, then that’s great. But Brock has taken shots directly to the chin from two of the most efficient (and powerful) strikers in the HW division, and never once have his knees buckled.
Believing that JDS will simply pop up from the ground like Cain did, or stuff takedowns against Lesnar is (in my mind) delusional. Lesnar will get the fight to the ground, and then we’ll see what JDS can do.
If JDS couldn’t KO T-Rex armed Roy Nelson, I just don’t see it with Brock. He’ll have a pure striking advantage, and it’ll be a massive one. I just don’t see it being decisive. Lesnar’s ground skills provide the decisive advantage here.
Your right his knees did not buckle but he did turtle up in the corner of the cage and .....
that is worse. Lesnar has a chance but until he shows me he can take a couple of shots to the face(flush) and keep on standing and going for takedowns i think i’ll take jds. He (jds) just has to tko lesnar. He does not have to knock him out. Should be a good fight and i’m looking forward to it.

This is just a complete misrepresentation of what happened in those fights.
Perfect case to examine, actually. Brock, after getting blasted, immediately went to secure a takedown. Once he was denied ground control, only then was his opponent able to send him backwards.
You’re right about TKO vs. KO. But JDS has to stuff takedowns and also get up once the inevitable takedown occurs. It’s a bigger obstacle than it might appear at first.
