WWE Night of Champions Live Updates and Open Thread
Yes, it's football season and tonight the Colts play the Giants. Nonetheless you should make your way to Cageside Seats as we will have live updates of tonight's Night of Champions PPV featuring Kane vs Undertaker for the World Heavyweight title and the 6-pack challenge for the WWE Championship between Sheamus, John Cena, Randy Orton, Edge, Chris Jericho and Wade Barrett. Feel free to comment on what you think of the show while it's happening or just come to see the updates. See you at 7.
- Here we go ladies and sirs. Broadcast is live and it's time for Night of Champions.
- First match of the night is for the Intercontinental title. Vickie does her "EXCUSE ME" schtick to bring out Ziggler. She gets such good heat with just those two words. Maybe it's the unbearable shrieking voice.
- Kofi Kingston gets a really nice pop from the crowd. Hopefully this match gets an actual finish.
- Hot crowd for this match. By the way, Cole, Lawler and Striker are settling in nicely as a team on the commentary. They have their moments where I don't despise them. Well, except Cole.
- Do these guys really need these extended rest spots? Let's pick it up Kofi.
- That was a beautiful spot. These two are killing it now. If Vince listened to the crowd he would put the World title on Kofi. Loving the crowd right now.
- You knew they would take the match to the outside at least once to reinforce the stipulation.
- Ziggler gets the clean pinfall win over Kingston. I'm really surprised they didn't pay off the stipulation. Not a bad way to start the night but it was a slower match then I wanted. They tease issues with Ziggler and Vickie after the match.
- Interview in the back with Edge. Says he'll rise to the occasion and walk out the champ. Nothing special there.
- Next up is CM Punk and they really played on his being from Chicago. BIG pop from the audience. Heel be damned.
- They chant for Punk after he grabs the mic. Says he loves Chicago to more cheers. Goes heel with it and says he hates the inhabitants of Chicago. They boo like they're supposed to. He's going off on them. Gets a huge reaction when he shits on the White Sox. Says they make him sick. Awesome job to turn the crowd right back on him.
- They cheer big for Show almost totally due to Punk's work on the mic before his music hit. Punk should not be in the mid-card.
- Punk controlling the match until Show spears him in mid-air off the top rope. That was a nice spot.
- Right after they get up Show hits him with the big shot and gets the clean pin. That match wasn't worth the time. Only so much Show can do though.
- Back to the back and an interview now with Jericho. I really don't want this to be the last time I see Jericho. Any word on his contract? He's talking about why the GM put him back in the match. Spitting his resume to us. He runs through all the guys he's going to eliminate. Orton was last, take what you will from that. Better than the Edge interview.
- Up next is Miz and Daniel Bryan for the United States title. I'm expecting big things from this match. No way does Miz walk away from this with the belt.
- I love how Miz pimps the Money in the Bank briefcase more than he does the US title. What does that say to you? I might be the only guy on earth that likes Bryan's music.
- Small things like kicking out at 1 early in a match impress me. Well done by the Miz. Early submission attempts don't.
- Good psychology by Miz to keep working the arm but it's making for a bit of a boring match.
- So Miz dominating and controlling the match while foiling two short comeback attempts means Bryan is going to get the big babyface comeback for the title, yeah?
- Even with Bryan on the offensive he's selling the arm. I'm diggin it.
- Ton of near falls here and Riley getting tossed on the outside. Miz works him with punches but gets caught in the LeBell lock. Teases tapping for about 30 seconds before tapping. Bryan wins the title. Great match. Good psychology and a nice back and forth at the end with the quick come from behind. Huge pop when Miz tapped. Bryan is way over now.
- Time for Cena to do his interview. Mixed reaction from the crowd. Cena starts talking about stats and chances and doing a comedy bit. It's lame. Says you can never count him out. We know, John. God, do we know.
- Next up is the Lumberjill match. If you need to get something to eat or take a quick power nap or just stretch, do so now.
- They actually start with a slick spot. McCool tried to cheap shot Melina when she was doing her entrance but right when she went to hit her, Melina did the splits and McCool went under and out. Probably the best thing that will happen in this match.
- Melina stole that Matrix move from Trish Stratus. Always bugs me to see her do it. Michelle McCool wins the title after Layla came in to assist.
- Time for another interview. This time it's with Wade Barrett. Odd promo. He put over his opponents and then said the winds of change are blowing and he'll be the next champion. Monotone and straight to it. Don't know how I feel about that.
- It's time for the Kane-Undertaker Heavyweight title match. Long promo video. The WWE production team is really good at this, if nothing else.
- Jim Ross is on Twitter making sure to mention that Miz still has the briefcase. He's been talking about it for a while now. Hmmm.....
- They waste no time getting at it. Taker runs up the ramp to engage Kane right after he walks out. The fact that it's no holds barred makes me wonder if we'll see a big spot from one of these guys.
- They're working a slow paced match with a huge lack of offense. I didn't expect much from another program with these two but this is just horrible so far.
- They've been brawling through the crowd. They are both looking tired and worn. This is the kind of match you get with two guys on the wrong side of 40 and one of them at the tail end of his career.
- The crowd, which has been so hot for the rest of the card, is just dead for this match. I'm ready for it to be over. Taker making a comeback that's actually getting some reaction now.
- Taker hits a decent chokeslam and then oversells how tired he is. Throat slash and down go the straps. Up for the tombstone but Kane reverses and gets the pin for the victory to retain the title. Wow. Taker's head looked low on that tombstone.
- Randy Orton's turn for an interview. He gives an intense look, like always, and says, after being asked if he has anything to say going into the 6 pack challenge, no. He walks off. Up next is a Tag Team turmoil match for the Tag Team Championships.
- Hart Dynasty and the Usos will start the match. Winners get the next tag team and so on and so forth until a winner is determined. Interesting concept, we'll see how it plays out.
- Usos get the pin and the Hart Dynasty is out. Santino and Kozlov are out to a big pop from the crowd. Santino doing work before getting distracted by Tamina leading to a quick pin for the Usos. Next out is Mark Henry and Evan Bourne.
- Bourne hits the shooting star press and gets the pin. Usos are out and it's down to Bourne and Henry vs McIntyre and Rhodes.
- Striker doing what he can to put these two tag teams over but I don't think anybody is buying it. The WWE really doesn't care about these titles.
- They tease a big spot of Bourne hitting the shooting star off of Henry's shoulders but don't go through with it. Cross Rhodes on Bourne and new Tag Team champions are Rhodes and McIntyre.
- They show a promo of Alberto Del Rio. Not performing on this one though. Six pack challenge time for the WWE Championship. I'm really hoping Barrett gets the title but fear Orton will get it or Sheamus will retain.
- Out first is Sheamus and Orton is out last. Whatever that means.
- Once everyone is in the ring they do introductions individually and Sheamus is last in that. Orton got the biggest pop. Here we go.
- Wow. Orton hits the RKO on Jericho and he's the first one out.
- The action in the ring totally stops and they spend a ton of time on Jericho's exit. He walks out in disbelief. Back in the ring and they've got Wade Barrett surrounded. Gang attack on him now.
- Orton and Cena with a ton of heat have a back and forth with good work to get everyone in on it. Slowed down a bit since then.
- The Irish Curse backbreaker is a stupid name for a move but it's very visually impressive. After some reversals from Orton, Edge and Cena, the Attitude Adjustment gets Cena the pin on Edge and he's gone. 4 left.
- Sheamus caught in the STF and he teases tapping before making his way to the ropes. I'm marking out so hard for this crowd. Out comes the Nexus. They distract Cena and Barrett comes in to hit Wasteland and he pins Cena. Clean pinfall. Wow.
- Nexus is still out there. No DQ's in this match. Nexus is ready to take out Orton but Cena starts drilling them with chairs. Orton hits the RKO on Barrett and he's out. Sheamus comes in and hits Orton with the big kick to the head and only gets two. High cross reversed to the RKO and Orton gets the pin to become the new WWE Champion. Hell of a match. Would have rather seen Barrett win the title but this crowd was hot for Orton the whole way and this was an exciting match.
Not sure how to feel about this PPV. Slow pace for almost the whole night. None of the matches really blew me away. Miz-Bryan had a great match and the 6 pack challenge was solid. Not happy with the way Jericho was put out so quick and I don't like it that Orton has the title but all things considered it was good. Kane-Taker are headed straight for another match at Hell in a Cell and no one is looking forward to it. See you in two weeks.

Context of this?
For some reason it seems like an in-joke at Jeff Hardy’s expense WRT Punk… and I hadn’t realized that his heel straight edge had been around for a year now.
Awesome heel promo. Top Heel in the WWE.
Alberto Del Rio is coming up soon though.

Undertaker matches are a lot like Randy Orton’s matches — they take a while to get going but once they really get into it’s entertaining. The problem is I’m usually bored out of my mind by the time BUSINESS PICKS UP!
