UFC Fight Night 22 Results - Cole Miller Submits Ross Pearson

Photo by Tracy Lee via Yahoo! Sports

That was an awesome way to start the night. Cole Miller was thought to stand very little chance in this fight as long as it was on the feet but he proved a lot of folks wrong tonight, including myself.

The first round saw Pearson come out throwing right leg kicks. Pearson was at a big disadvantage in the reach department. He moved in a lot to try to get his punches off and was steadily eating counters as he went. Miller shot in on him and pushed him against the cage before eventually getting a takedown. Pearson did well to stand up quickly and push off. Cole was relentless the whole fight and in the first he even jumped guard on Ross. He did nothing with it but landed a few solid counters and likely took the round.

Shortly into the second frame Miller shot in and after a great sprawl from Pearson tried to pull guard. Pearson escaped and they went back to the feet. That's when Miller surprised everybody. He came in fast with a flying knee that shocked Ross and landed a few shots that dropped his British opponent. After a few punches on the ground he quickly took Pearson's back and sunk in the winning choke. Great performance by Miller.

He was quick to try to get the crowd on his side by decrying stall and control tactics and saying he always works for finishes. He certainly impressed with this one.
