Anonymous Wrestler Makes Disparaging Remarks About John Cena

Photo

I know I've been doing a little bit of Cena coverage over the past day or two and it's making me just as sick as it may be making you but this one deserves a look. Vince McMahon talked to the Boston Herald a few days ago about John Cena and had this to say:

You have to start with the quality of the human being," McMahon told the Herald. "John is an extraordinary human being; he’s honest, he’s loyal.

"He’s full of himself, too," McMahon added, laughing. "But he’s like a throwback to the type of individual it’s difficult find these days, someone with old-fashioned values. In addition to that, he’s a Neanderthal when it comes to strength."

"No matter how good you are as a human being, you need talent," he said. "You could tell that John had talent - very raw talent, mind you."

McMahon reportedly held a meeting with all of the talent in which he told everyone to "reach for the brass ring." McMahon recalled saying this:

“Step on people on the way over if you have to. Apologize later. I’m looking for someone with courage that wants to break out and be ballsy enough to take on the responsibility of being the top guy.

“At the end of the meeting, someone came over and said, ‘I’m your man,’ and that was John.”

Well, apparently this isn't sitting well with an anonymous wrestler. He claims that it wasn't just Cena that went and told Vince that he was the man for the job. He says there were 5 wrestlers.  From PWTorch and via WrestlingInc:

"The only difference is that Cena did his 'stepping over guys' in the locker room more than the ring."

I don't doubt this at all but he did plenty of stepping over guys in the ring too. In fact, I can't remember a single feud in the past 5 years that Cena has come out of where he looked worse than the guy he was in the feud with. Not one. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. He's always been booked to look the best and after hearing Vince McMahon gushing all over him, you can see why. The report also says that the anonymous wrestler claims that Vince was looking for a "backstabbing asshole/stooge" to be his top guy.

"It has zero to do with in-ring talent. Cena stepped on guys like the Spirit Squad and others who were only there for less than six months."

After seeing that, I thought that this sounds like a bitter wrestler who may or may not have been promised a push but was then forced to take a backseat to a Cena program. Or he/she is just jealous of how much of a man-crush Vince has on Cena. As far as the Spirit Squad goes, they never got over, for good reason, and DX was burying them on TV every week. Not sure what that has to do with Cena. Fully agree about the comment regarding in-ring talent. It's always fun when he's in an angle with Triple H because he's the only guy with clout enough to call him on it.

I'm curious to know who this anonymous wrestler is. Any guesses?

Who do you guys think should be the top guy right now? I read in an interview that HBK thinks highly of Orton.

As for who it might be I agree that it could be HHH or here are a couple more: Orton, Edge, Jericho, Christian, or Morrison. I doubt it is Christian or Morrison but they should be in the main event scene and are not.

No way it’s Triple H. He gets to do what he wants. Also don’t think it’s Orton. He’s the top heel counterpart to Cena. Not Edge or Jericho because they’ve both been at the top with decent runs with the titles. If it’s anybody it’s a mid-card guy. It would have to be someone who was there back when this meeting took place which would have had to have been in or around 2002.

The mention of the Spirit Squad makes me believe it is Ken Doane.

Was he there at that time?

My real guess is Carlito

Ok we’ve heard this before Cena kisses Vince’s ass and has no in ring talent to deserve a main event position yada yada yada. The only problem with that is Cena is the biggest draw in wrestling since Austin. Burying the spirit squad? Wasn’t Cena on Smackdown in the spirit squad era? Who has Cena buried like Orton buried Ken Kennedy or HHH to RVD? I can’t even remember reading in a wrestling newsletter about Cena crapping on someone. The only possibility would be Carlito but Mr. Cool created his own issues so Cena wouldn’t have had to say much of anything. I’m not a Cena fan at all but I’m over hating on the dude because it is not his fault Vince wants to book him like superman. These days if a guy like Hogan came along he’d be hated on. Hogan certainly had less than 10 good to great matches in his career. Ask any wrestling fan to list 10 3star+ Hogan matches and it could take a lifetime. Cena sucks but he’s good for the business.

Did people ever complain in the 70’s that Bruno Sammartino never came out of a feud looking worse than the guy he feuded with? Or Hulk Hogan in the 80’s? Or Bret Hart, Steve Austin, Rock, etc, in the 90s? WW(W)(F)E has always been a babyface promotion, built around a strong babyface champion who fends off a series of heel challengers. Cena is the latest in a long line that goes back to the 1960’s. It’s been the McMahon formula for almost 50 years, and it’s been a formula that has been very successful for them. Why should they change?

I think it depends on the guy.

I remember complaints about Hogan after a long enough time. Not as many but some complaints about Bret too. The other guys not so much. I just think he’s been at the top for far too long. Rock and Austin didn’t even have a run like this.

Is it fair to compare his run to Rock and Austin? They probably would of stayed on top if they didn’t leave the company when they did.
