Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Smackdown main event spoiler courtesy of www.f4wonline.com

Alberto Del Rio's WWE career has started off with a big bang. (Wikimedia Commons)

In a big upset, the former Dos Caras Jr., Alberto Del Rio, in his WWE debut cleanly defeated Rey Mysterio in the Smackdown main event with an arm bar.  This is the biggest debut win given to a new WWE superstar I can remember since Carlito Caribbean Cool defeated John Cena for the United States title on the October 5th 2004 Smackdown TV tapings.  Hopefully things turn out better for Del Rio in the long run than they did for Carlito, though I'm not holding my breath.

He did need a big debut though

with all the vignettes he had

it seemed like forever ago the first one was aired

I was tired of those damn vignettes. Thankfully they’re over now.

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

Yeah, I’d forgotten about that. However, Santino’s debut wasn’t hyped a priori with tons of vignettes and his victory was more of a fluke win due to interference, so Carlito’s debut is a better comparison. It didn’t help Santino’s career much in the long run either.
