[Spoiler] - TNA hits the reset button with their World title at tonight's Impact taping
In a panic booking move reminiscent of the death of WCW, TNA hit the reset button with their World title at tonight's Impact taping by having Rob Van Dam vacate the championship for storyline reasons:
PWTorch.com reveals TNA's future plans regarding the EV2.0 vs. Fortune angle and the TNA Championship. RVD will be in an injury angle at the hands of Abyss this week which will force RVD to vacate his title. A Tournament for the title will begin at the iMPACT tapings tonight to crown a new TNA Champion culminating at the No Surrender PPV.
The obvious questions are why have RVD vacate the title and not have Abyss beat him for it and then injure him and why have RVD drop the title so soon in the first place? He's getting major heat and traction as the Champ so why change the formula before you start getting the results you want and if you want to change the Championship why do it in a way that decreases the value of the title?
Another obvious question is why do that now when you're only halfway through a long term storyline where Kurt Angle beats every wrestler in the official TNA top ten rankings to earn a World title shot? If you wanted the belt off RVD so urgently you could have sped that storyline up, which has been going at a snail's pace. Instead, they've just nonsensically dropped Angle's storyline by putting him in the World title tournament:
From F4WOnline:
TNA is doing a storyline where Rob Van Dam vacated the TNA title due to injuries suffered from the Fortune and friends beat down of him at last night's tapings. They filmed a segment of Van Dam going out in an ambulance and are doing an injury angle.
They will be doing an eight-man tournament that will end on the 9/5 PPV show. Four first round matches will be taped on tonight's show including Kurt Angle vs. Douglas Williams.
To me this is absolutely ridiculous. They take the belt off of AJ to give it to RVD, who was clearly not happy about it:
I definitely didn’t understand it. For the life of me, I couldn’t understand it. I was very surprised that I would lose that title after holding it for so long, and to somebody who has basically been out of wrestling for over a year, and was coming in from WWE. And he should have been tired from wrestling a match before that. It was like I’m not the star I thought I was. I guess I’m just a guy in TNA.
Now they cut the legs out from him after less than 4 months? To book a tourney? No one ever cares about tourney for belts! Just another reason why TNA's going in the crapper.
I think the conniving duo of Tommy Dreamer and Vince Russo may prove to be the Laurel and Hardy of wrestling booking, if this is anything to go by.

Do you like this story?

the poll/ranking thing was stupid
It works for NXT because it’s not deciding the fate of the top belt in the promotion
and their last tourney went SOOOOOOO well
My main issue is that this basically kills two angles: RVD’s title reign and Angles’ beating all of the top ten in order to get his shot.
I have no issue with RVD losing, he cannot carry a wrestling company, period. He has no mic skills and is just lacking in ring charisma to me. Great athlete, and has decent charisma in the ring, but he is missing something as far as being champ is concerned.
I love tourney’s, but this just isn’t being done the right way. EV2.0 HAS to be stopped. Why are they keeping this going?

This actually describes AJ too.

To be fair, I don’t think there’s anyone left on the roster who can carry the company, given how everyone’s been booked into oblivion. Having to put the title back on Kurt or Sting again would be a bit sad, given how banged up they both are.

I think Joe potentially can, but they’re not going to give him the chance.

Joe's fat ass needs to drop some weight
I’m sorry, the dude looks ridiculous now.
“BUT (insert wrestler) is fat”
Joe jiggles. It’s not funny.

Joe has looked the same since he started.
He’s been over everywhere he’s worked. It’s not his fault TNA doesn’t know how to use him anymore.
Have him feud with someone who can work and the folks will instantly get behind him.
And yes, we know you think he’s fat since you’ve mentioned in almost every TNA thread. BTW – Dusty Rhodes was fatter.
RIP, Coach Wooden.
Thank you, Geoff Petrie.
Maybe we should run down the list of guys in the biz who are fatter than Joe…this might take awhile.

Shit all the talk in WWE is that they're gonna put a rocket up Husky Harris' ass
When NXT is over and he has no visible muscle on his entire body. Times may have changed in WWE so Joe just may have a spot if TNA can’t get their act together. Which they can’t
Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...
One can only hope.
I haven’t been watching too much of the current NXT but I am loving what I have seen from Husky…it’s kind of like the Roy Nelson effect. He shatters all the stereotypes of what a pro wrestler is supposed to look like so it makes you get behind him even more.
Agreed on Husky Harris.
I dig his tweener persona and his ring work has been VERY solid. What big man does a running senton as well as Samoa Joe? Husky Harris.
Husky’s mic work has been solid as well. Hopefully he won’t get voted off too soon.
RIP, Coach Wooden.
Thank you, Geoff Petrie.
Husky is that dude
Too bad the fans are connecting with him

Husky Harris is much more "solid" than Joe
Look at Husky when he moves around. Outside of his chest, he doesn’t really jiggle. Neither did Umaga. Joe has girly, jiggly fat.
Husky, Trevor Murdoch. The WWE has room for one “non-in-shape looking” wrestlers.

No he hasn't.
Joe has gained at least 20-30 pounds since 2005.
Yes, there are wrestlers who are/have been fatter. They were booked as fat wrestlers. Joe is not. Joe isn’t fat enough to be billed as a “fat wrestler”, he’s just fat.
Dusty Rhodes was a different time and was a “fat wrestler”.
I don’t even post here, so how many “times” have I mentioned it? Once? Twice?

I wish. TNA really blew it with him.

Word.
But there’s hope they can give him one last run with the right guys. Joe vs Angle, A.J., Williams, Wolfe and Dinero are all matches I’d watch again or want to see.
RIP, Coach Wooden.
Thank you, Geoff Petrie.
Speaking of which…am I missing something or have I not seen Wolfe in awhile? I’d love seeing Joe go up against those guys. I’m sure TNA will get right on that…
