NXT results for July 27th
Here's what happened during the 2nd elimination week.
The show started out with an open mic competition.
Alex Riley and Husky Harris were the two standouts. Riley proclaimed himself to be a future star, and Harris said all the other rookies "looked like Tarzan and fought like Jane".
Eli Cottonwood said he's the only one in this competition who can look into the eyes of Kane and the Undertaker.
Michael McGillicutty challenged the Miz for calling him mediocre.
Percy Watson talked about having a good time.
Lucky Cannon talked about how being close to a WWE contract has made more people care about him.
Kaval talked about having big dreams-he referenced wrestling as "Low Ki".
MATCH 1: Percy Watson defeated Zack Ryder via splash following a float over DDT. The two had a decent match.
MATCH 2: Michael McGillicutty defeated Eli Cottonwood after hitting his neckbreaker finisher. Cottonwood dominated most of the match, but he missed a big boot, got his leg trapped on the rope. McGillicutty hit a leg DDT and then hit his finisher.
They aired a Kaval package. The Pro's said he has some of the best in ring work, but he needs to talk himself less seriously.
Husky Harris/Kaval/LayCool segment: Harris bumped into Kaval and said he didn't see Kaval, but could you blame him? Kaval isn't really noticeable. LayCool brought up the rankings and Harris asked if Kaval's girlfriends needed to do all the talking. Kaval said he does his talking in the ring. Harris said with all that intensity he would have some fun with Kaval in the ring. Kaval said he would have lots of fun. Kaval and LayCool walked away with LayCool telling Harris that what Kaval said was real talk.
MATCH 3: Husky Harris defeated Kaval via running splash. The finish came after Harris accidentally knocked LayCool off the apron, Kaval went to check on them and Harris brought Kaval back into the ring with a reverse suplex that almost looked like an inverted cutter, followed by his running splash.
They showed a raw rebound.
They finally aired their rankings which went as follows:
1-Michael McGillicutty
2-Kaval
3-Alex Riley
4-Percy Watson
5-Lucky Cannon
6-Husky Harris
Eliminated: Eli Cottonwood.
After the rankings Cottonwood attacked Harris and the rookies fought him off.
Striker interviewed Harris, and Harris said this is his competition and said he's been on a warpath.
McGillicutty said he was a future champ.
Riley said he was better than McGillicutty and Kaval. Riley and McGillicutty the brawled, and Cottonwood came back to attack Harris to end the show
MY NXT Power Rankings (with the 6 remaining rookies)
1-Alex Riley-Great on the mic, very good in ring abilities.
2-Michael McGillicutty-Good in ring abilities, good legacy-he could use some work on the mic (and would probably be better as a heel). He needs a stronger finisher and a new name.
3-Kaval. Very good in the ring, but his voice really sounds like a Moviefone operator.
4-Husky Harris. Playing his role very well, and is complimented by Cody Rhodes very well. I wouldn't be surprised to see Harris serve as "Dashing" Cody Rhodes' bodyguard after NXT ends.
5-Percy Watson. Probably the most athletic competitor but his character is way too far over the top.
6-Lucky Cannon. Very bland, WWE keeps hammering home the fact that he is "lucky". It's hard for me to take him seriously since he couldn't last 5 minutes in the ring with Cody Rhodes.
So what are your guys' power rankings?

Kaval isn't going to win NXT season 2 but he will stay on the main roster
I have no doubt that some NXT 2 wrestlers will join Nexus
Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...
I love that you put Riley number one. The guy is an absolute stud. Riley’s interview skills are beyond impressive, he has solid in ring ability, and he has the look of a pro wrestler.
I believe this guy can be the face of WWE if he chooses to stay with it. I have to say that I enjoy Percy Watson’s character. Yes he is over the top, but isn’t wrestling supposed to be over the top? I think maybe Watson is someone that you either love or hate. With that said, I do think he will grow on most people.
Michael McGillicutty is a solid worker and has decent mic skills, but he just comes off as bland to me. I don’t think anything is wrong with him per say, I just don’t see him as a future main eventer, at least not at this point.
Kaval is what we thought he was, a great worker. I must say him and LayCool make for an entertaining team, I have enjoyed every second of their work.
Good recap!
Thanks
I agree with the Kaval/LayCool team being entertaining. I think Vince originally did it to “get back at the internet fans” (like he did with Miz & Danielson) but they are really working well together.
I think McGillicutty would be better as a heel-he seems to be struggling as a face-especially on the mic.

Still cheering for Kevin Frandsen
John Bowker: One of the 3 best OF's on the Giants roster
Agreed
McGillicutty is a bit stale as a face. He needs to channel his inner Mr. Perfect and be heel. Not saying he should use his dad’s gimmick, just that he should try to embody that charisma.

Kaval is the truth.
It’s a shame he’s probably only a few more inches taller than Taz. I have no doubt the WWE will give him the Evan Bourne treatment for a year or two before they start giving him any sort of a decent push. I personally like his Darth Vader voice and his ‘World Warrior’ gimmick is basically a small extension of his real personality and it works.
I’m digging Lil’ Perfect’s ring work but he definitely needs to grow on the mic.
Riley is money on the mic but his ring skills need some seasoning.
Husky is solid and it’s nice to see the physical heir apparent to Dusty Rhodes. Husky is nice on the mic and can totally go in the ring.
Everybody else can go back to FCW…and that includes half the members of the Nexus. Meh.
RIP, Coach Wooden.
Thank you, Geoff Petrie.
Percy is really a good talent. He is a different kind of character and he is definitely solid as an athlete. I have a feeling he is going to be a finalist.
The Nexus guys have grown on me. I think Tarver and Sheffield have improved a pretty decent amount in recent weeks- Sheffield especially. Sheffield is perfect as an enforcer. That stupid corn fed country bumpkin gimmick was nothing short of retarded. I hope to never hear the words “Yep, yrp, yep, what it do” spoken ever again.
I think Young is the only Nexus member who has trul fallen stale. All of the remaining 6 Nxt 2 guys are better than him, with the exception of Lucky.

Agreed on Lucky.
I still feel most of the Nexus guys are green. The key I think is to protect them and really make them look strong at Summerslam. If the WWE just buries them and has them job to Cena’s team – it will be a waste of an opportunity to make the members of the Nexus stable have an important role in the future of the company. Sheffield’s clotheslines are looking better than ever. Tarver’s FCW promos and ring work are definitely solid. I just wish he had a better platform to show his talents. It would be a shame for the Nexus to become another ‘Spirit Squad’.
We’ll agree to disagree on Percy. I feel like he’s a bad Eddie Murphy impression and he’s a prime example of how ‘out of touch’ the WWE brass is. Why do black athletes have to come in the WWE and be caricatures? I can’t complain much if that’s really a part of his personality but his promos have just come off as ridiculous. Not to mention I hate that dropkick splash of his. It’s very Ultimate Warrior IMHO.
RIP, Coach Wooden.
Thank you, Geoff Petrie.
