Undertaker Possibly Returning at Summerslam in Non-Wrestling Role, How Will They Close His Career?

Undertaker-wwe-04_medium

This Fanpost was promoted to the front page.

Several sites are reporting that the Undertaker will be making some form of a return at Summerslam. He has been advertised in commercials for the show so it's believed that he will make an appearance in some capacity, although he will not be wrestling. Night of Champions looks like the event that he will come back for the inevitable match with his "attacker".

The storyline we are likely to get is that Taker will show up at Summerslam and reveal that Kane was, in fact, his attacker all along. If they go this route I can't wait to hear them explain why Kane has been on a rampage to find this attacker. The WWE constantly uses backwards logic so this should be a real gem. The obvious way to go with this is to actually have someone besides Kane be the guy but this is the WWE so we can nix that. It is about time for the annual Taker-Kane rivalry. I guess the question now is will it be for the title?

It's widely accepted at this point that Undertaker will retire after next years WrestleMania. It's also accepted that he'll get one last run with the belt. I'm thinking Kane will drop the strap back to Mysterio at Summerslam after Taker interferes. The swerve will be that he won't explain until after costing Kane the match and the belt. We are all at that point supposed to wonder why Taker would attack his own brother, even though he has done so a million times before, and why he would go after the guy who was trying to find his assailant? But of course, it was Kane all along!!!

Mysterio and Swagger will continue to feud over the title while Kane and Taker sort out their issues. Afterwards, I'm really intrigued to see how they decide to use the Deadman for the final few months of his career. Somewhere in there they will have to fit a title run while also deciding if they want Taker to finally lose at WrestleMania. If they do, who gets the rub? For a long time I've heard Cena but I don't think any wrestling fan in the world would be okay with that. I would rather he not lose at all but that's not in line with how business is done in pro wrestling. I just don't know if anyone qualifies to get that kind of win.

Then it becomes how to handle his retirement. I was a big fan of the send off they gave to Flair, even though he shit all over it, and also liked the way HBK went out. Taker has broken character about 3 times in twenty years so I wonder what he'll do. I can imagine him coming out on his bike, saying a few words, riding back up the ramp before turning around to the crowd and thumping his chest twice and pointing out the way he did in his American Bad Ass role. I think I'd like that.

What %’s would you put on the likelihood of Taker finally losing in his last Wrestlemania?

by Jeremiah Johnson. on Jul 26, 2010 3:08 PM EDT reply actions

They better not have him lose

In my opinion, it would kill the significance of the streak.

No one wins when they retire in wrestling and someone should get the rub from ending

the streak to propel their career. There is no better set up to making a star than the wrestler who retires Taker at Mania. Huge blunder if wwe doesn;t take advantage

Somewhere around 40%

I would rather they didn’t but you are supposed to go out with a loss so you can get somebody over. What better way is there to get a guy over then to have him be the guy that finally beat Taker at Mania? They could build someones entire career off that accomplishment alone.

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

I wouldn't like it, whatever the actual odds are.

I hope they don’t change Taker’s character again, I had nothing against the “American Bad Ass” UnderTaker but I and probably everybody else prefer the “Deadman” UnderTaker.

As for him losing at next years Wrestlemania I don’t really see him losing but I am also a big Taker fan so that could be why but the only two that I could see them having breaking the streak is Cena or HHH. Do you think there is anybody else they would have break the streak?

by The Legend on Jul 26, 2010 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

I know Triple H is the most well connected and a lot of things run through him in the back but it would do absolutely nothing for his career to win that match. It wouldn’t make sense.
So that’s probably what they’ll do.

No, I’m kidding. I can’t see them doing that. Cena is a maybe but he is already the top guy in the company. If they are going to do it they need to do it for a young guy who hasn’t quite gotten over yet. As crazy as it sounds, maybe somebody like John Morrison.

You’re right it would be better to do it with a young guy. I remember reading a blog last year and they suggested Ted Dibiase Jr. Him and Morrison are probably the two best choices for young guys. If they wanted to to do a top young guy they could do Orton but they’ve already done that fued so maybe Sheamus?

Also he hasn’t been a heel since he returned to being the “Deadman” back in 04’ right? I doubt we would see him turn heel since he is probably retiring soon but it would be cool to see him as a heel for a little bit.

“For a long time I’ve heard Cena but I don’t think any wrestling fan in the world would be okay with that.”

I agree…however, if they were going to turn Cena heel, the absolute best launching point for that would be him using some bullshit cheating to beat Undertaker at Mania. Many fans already want to boo him, but that would push it to a ridiculous level that would probably work really well. Anyone besides Cena, they’d waste the moment. Dibiase or Swagger or pretty much any other heel – if they beat ‘Taker, they gloat about it for a month or two, then it’s forgotten.

He should not lose. It makes far more sense for it to stay alive, especially if they want to try to get him to come back for one more match the following year to take it to 20-0.

You make a damn good point.

A heel Cena would get over huge with a win over Taker at WM.

Kane being The Undertaker’s attacker all along actually makes a lot of sense. The guilty party in a serious crime often tries to frame someone else to deflect attention away from themselves.

I think Taker probably should retire with the streak intact, as there’s no young star really ready for such a mammoth achievement.

What if babyface Orton wins the Rumble and decides to avenge his Mania loss to Taker

in a career vs. career match. Orton is super over but beating Taker at Mania would do for him what Bret vs. Austin did for Stone Cold(even though he lost). Orton would replace Cena as the entrenched #1 babyface and Cena would be free to turn heel.

Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...

by Major on Jul 29, 2010 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Orton’s not a bad choice to end the streak, but I’m not sure beating Taker at Mania would get him much more over as a babyface, because fans already see Orton at Taker’s level.

Undertaker.

Personally i dont think Undertaker will lose at Mania.

But if he had to i think it should be against Ted Dibiase jr, simply because his father was the person who introduced Undertaker to WWE ( back then WWF)

But, i think that having Undertaker lose at Mania would be one of the stupidest things WWE could ever do, because it would be amazing to have Undertaker inducted into the Hall Of Fame (HOF) with a streak of 19-0 or even 20-0!!

by Courtney Hagans on Jul 29, 2010 11:30 PM EDT reply actions

That's a good angle on Dibiase Jr.

I hadn’t thought of that. I like him a lot but don’t know if he could hang with Taker.

I like him too, but he's not "up" at that level right now.

I agree the “my dad introduced you, and I drove you out” backstory is really cool, but Ted Jr. just doesn’t seem at that level right now, and probably won’t be anytime soon.

I am officially on the heel Cena vicory over Taker bandwagon. This would be huge if it were to happen. Frankly I am okay with whatever they do as long as it is interesting. Win or lose, as long as it is something that has meaning, I am okay.

Dibiase is definitely not there. I would want it to be Miz or Morrison if it were a young guy. Imagine the gloating Miz could do if he were to win. If he were to lose, the guy who wins would get a huge push and honor, hopefully it won’t be ruined.

Word.

I would like to see this as well.

I can imagine him coming out on his bike, saying a few words, riding back up the ramp before turning around to the crowd and thumping his chest twice and pointing out the way he did in his American Bad Ass role. I think I’d like that.

I really do not want to see another Kane vs Undertaker feud. They have a chance to pass the ‘mystical wrestler phenom’ torch to Kane since his character has taken off since this angle started. To just make Kane Taker’s true attacker would be very weak and another easy out for the WWE writing team.

Why not give the rub to somebody who needs the rub? If the WWE wants to build the Nexus or the S.E.S. as powerful factions, they need to make them the assailants. The only people I would want to be the assaulter(s) would be:
1) The Nexus – why not take out the biggest dog in the whole WWE?
2) S.E.S. (even though they did the whole Serena alibi) – No reason, I’m just a CM Punk mark.
3) Jack Swagger – screw the alibi. Swagger can be a major heel.
4) Matt Hardy – why not? Matt needs another program when his Christian feud ends.

RIP, Coach Wooden.

Thank you, Geoff Petrie.
