Ric Flair Probably Won't Be Joining The Gay-Straight Alliance Any Time Soon

"You know what they say: 'No hair, no Flair!' WHOO!"

According to Jason Powell at ProWrestling.net, well-known drunken flasher Ric Flair took issue with the sexual preferences of someone else at a bar last week.  Orlando Jordan's "on-air male companion" (who is also his real life male companion, and is the same man he was dating when he was fired from WWE because of concerns about the age of said male companion at the time) was hanging out with various TNA wrestlers and crew members at a bar after the Impact tapings.  OJ's OAMC took it upon himself to start dancing.  Flair, presumably having never seen a gay man dance before (and also "fuming over the male companion having a role in the company and not belonging in the locker room"), "got so upset while watching the male companion dance at the bar that he confronted the man and cut a promo on him."  Jordan's boyfriend was so shaken up by the confrontation that he left the bar.

While sad, this story shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, as Flair was a supporter of Jesse Helms in the past and referred to Chris Kanyon's sexual orientation as "the choices he made in his lifestyle" during an argument between the two on The Howard Stern Show.

Update: At the Wrestling Classics message board, indy wrestler Matt Farmer posted the following:

From those that I heard from Ric was more than justified for confronting the guy. Guess everyone was upset over this guys over the top behavior and was embarrassed because they frequent this bar often.

If true, whether it was right or wrong morally, that story suggests that the wrestlers were at least in agreement over the issue.

Meanwhile, after the jump, you can check out a very romantic backstage encounter that Flair had with Shawn Michaels on Raw a few years ago.

Matt Farmer is one of the boys, so trust him to stand up for Flair despite the overt hypocrisy. I’m sure this incident was driven by the latent homophobia that pervades the wrestling industry, but even if it wasn’t and the behaviour was genuinely inappropriate, there are still much more tactful ways of dealing with the situation than cutting a drunken, aggressive promo on Orlando’s partner.
