More Great Squash Match Moments: The many adventures (and maimings) of Lee Scott

Lee Scott

At the beginning of 1990, after spending a few years in northeast independent promotions and the remaining southern territories, Mick Foley got his big break when he was hired by WCW.  Foley, then using the name Cactus Jack Manson (he hated that last part) was introduced in a pretty unique way: He'd team with established job guys and then attack his partner after they lost the match.  One week, he teamed with Lee Scott.  Originally a referee, Scott had been doing jobs on WCW TV pretty steadily for several months, taking horrific ass-kickings and wild pinball bumps in every match, most famously in this match where he's brutalized by Sid Vicious, which, like George Steele vs Rick Bolton, is frequently mentioned by fans as one of the greatest squash matches in wrestling history:

After the jump, we'll talk about exactly what happened when this man met Cactus Jack Manson.

Star-divide

The Dynamic Dudes (Shane Douglas & Johnny Ace, AKA current WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis) vs Cactus Jack Manson & Lee Scott: In this match, Cactus does the usual and turns on his partner after the lose.  What happened afterwards was different (and unfortunately not in the YouTube clip): Scott was interviewed by Jim Ross and demanded a match with Cactus Jack for the following week.

Cactus Jack Manson vs Lee Scott:  Scott's wish was granted.  He exploded onto Cactus...and then got destroyed, albeit not as photogenically as he was by Sid Vicious.  I don't remember if he stuck around after this match, but it was an interesting showcase for the uniquely talented Scott, and it got me on board as a fan of Cactus Jack.
