Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Will Never Top Michael Jordan

Is Josh Koscheck the 'Ric Flair of MMA?' Could be I suppose and I perceive that to be a good thing if that's what some fans think of Koscheck. He's a talented guy with a strong personality who knows that he needs to strike a nerve here and there to properly market himself and sell his fights. Some MMA purists are reluctant to see MMA fighters promote their fights that at times resemble a pro wrestling promo but if the fighters are organic and stay real then I think that it's great. Plus, the better the PPV's produce equates to a bigger payday for a fighter in a game where the number of main event level, big pay day fights are limited by the nature of the Octagon beast.

Jim Ross talks about Josh Koscheck being MMA's version of Ric Flair. Maybe in the fact that he draws a strong reaction out of people but nothing else. Flair can cut a hell of a promo while Kos tends to stumble across his words at times.

I'm not a fan of Sonnen but

Koscheck’s antics don’t even compare to Chael. It’s extremely evident that he’s trying to market himself like Sonnen did, and like Tito did before that. All these guys are fighters who aren’t that entertaining to watch, but were smart enough to know how to be marketable, ala Floyd Mayweather.

MMA is too young to already have an established ‘Ric Flair’.

"Dawson was NOT a hype job. Dude schooled Adamek, beat Tarver twice (neither competitive), beat Johnson twice (once close, once a wipeout) and even beat Harding when Harding was still good. That is not hype. Those are results. I love how people see a guy lose once and all of a sudden nothing they ever did means anything. You are dead wrong."

Sonnen didn’t put his hands on a medic either. It’ll be interesting to see how next week’s TUF plays out and the backlash that will result. I’m thinking calls for Koscheck to be prosecuted are likely.

To be fair, Kos was playing the heel all the way back in ’04 on the first TUF, way before Sonnen put himself over with PROWRESTLING.
